Today’s Horse Racing Tips – April 20

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for major Australian TAB meetings on April 20.

Major Australian thoroughbred meetings on Saturday are conducted at Randwick, Caulfield, Doomben, Oakbank and Ascot.

Randwick: Race 4 @ 1:45pm

A near capacity field is set to face the starter in his event with a number of promising fillies to take their place, expect the speed to be solid. INTO THE ABYSS (4) failed to get into the race first up before displaying sharp improvement last start when only narrowly beaten behind Multaja. Rates highly off the back of that effort and with further improvement expected, she should prove hard to beat. SO TAKEN (5) comes out of the same race and also improved sharply last start when finishing third. Has always shown good promise and looms as a major threat. SHE'S FURLINE (11) is tracking well this time in and has to be included in the main hopes, while JEN RULES (10) also has to be respected. SELECTIONS: Keen on Into The Abyss.

Caulfield: Race 2 @ 12:50pm

Pace from Wetakemanhattan, Ryan's Fender, Mitrust and La Belle Jude. Expecting a true test at the trip. GRINZINGER STAR (12) beat a good horse impressively last time. Running strong ratings this preparation and he looks a leading contender once again taking on the older horses this time. RYAN'S FENDER (5) impressed at the Valley last time. Relishing having his runs spaced and gets that scenario again here. Top stable and they should be able to get more out of him yet. LORD GODODDIN (8) will be better for his solid Australian debut. ZABALAN (3) can also be fitter and DARK PEARL (6) is heading the right way. SELECTIONS: Backing Grinzinger Star.

Doomben: Race 1 @ 11:32am

Expecting Bargannon and Xebec to roll forward but the pace looks steady at best. MISHANI VAIDRA (2) is racing in fine form. Kicked off this campaign with back to back wins before stepping up in grade to the Toowoomba Cup and performing well for a 1.6L third. This is easier and she hasn't missed a place here. Rates to win. BARGANNON (6) deserved his win at Sunshine Coast last start on the back of consistent form. Tries this distance for the first time but if he sees it out he could take catching. FOLLOW SUIT (4) ran well in the Toowoomba Cup when 2L behind Mishani Vaidra. Has won four of five attempts at this distance and Lloyd goes back on. XEBEC (1) has good statistics at the course and the distance and is drawn to get the favours. RUBY GURU (8) is in form and could add some value to exotics. SELECTIONS: Spin is well placed back in grade. Backing to win.

Morphettville: Race 7 @ 4:06pm (AEST)

Temps Voleur likes to roll along. We see an Oakbank Cup with little winning form lines. LYNCH MOB (11) had issues on wet ground at Sandown. Getting back to this journey is a bonus if all is OK from last time. PRIZE CATCH (1) has been racing better horses. He's been beaten a little way in them but the Perth Cup run wins this. TEMPS VOLEUR (2) is a value chance. He prefers to get out and running. Like him up in distance and backing up. ROYAL RUMBLE (3) can find trouble but has the ability. EXALTED LIGHTNING (7) is a tough jumper who may place at best. SELECTIONS: Can back Temps Voleur each way.

Ascot: Race 6 @ 6:10pm (AEST)

Mervyn and Molten probably try to cross Valour Road. Captain Stirling, Dia De La Raza and Undisclosed all have early speed to use too. VALOUR ROAD (1) won last year's Karrakatta Plate and wasn't disgraced running fifth in the G1 Winterbottom at WFA before a spell. Trial winner recently and should beat these. CAPTAIN STIRLING (3) lacks the class of the top weight but he is honest and a 1000m specialist. Too slick at Pinjarra two starts back then beaten favourite up to 1100m last time. Can feature. UNDISCLOSED (6) has record all her wins and placings at this trip and she's fitter for two recent trials. Capable of being in the finish fresh. Seeker, My Demi and Hoboken are each-way chances.
