Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for major Australian TAB meetings on April 21.
Australian thoroughbred meetings on Sunday are conducted at Mudgee, Nowra, Mornington, Stawell, Sunshine Coast, Albany and Penola.
Mudgee: Race 2 @ 1:50pm
Rufio can adopt a forward position. HE'S A HOTSHOT (4) is showing good promise. No match for the eventual Wellington Boot winner in Superium on debut at Bathurst. Sent out favourite at Gosford his next start and pulled up with Cardiac Arrhythmia. Clear excuses there and you had to like the way he trialled recently. Stable are firing and this bloke will take plenty of beating. AIRLIE AVENUE (8) was a mile back first-up but found the line strongly. Perhaps looking for further in time but if they overdo it upfront she'll be charging home. OKSAL (11) is sure to be forward enough. Baker has given her five trials in readiness for her debut. Has shown talent. GOLDEN ECLIPSE (9) has a place chance. SELECTIONS: He's A Hotshot is a good bet at money back.

Stawell: Race 1 @ 1:00pm
Santelmo Fuego can cross over and lead from Living The Dream. LIVING THE DREAM (4) is back after 21 days for his third yard and is a promising galloper better for the first-up run. Just missed on debut posting a strong figure and has been good against the clock. Looks hard to beat. BENATARI (1) is an improver who has just missed the last two. They stack right up and he’s a definite hope. HALCYON DAME (11) just missed resuming at Bendigo for the new yard and will be better for it. He has plenty up the sleeve and should go close drawn well. YULONG PATROL (9) missed a nose on debut and will race handy again. He’s also got good up side and a win wouldn’t surprise. SELECTIONS: With # 4 Living The Dream in a good opening contest.
Sunshine Coast: Race 4 @ 2:15pm
The Last Sequalo and Let's Go Bobby have drawn out but will go fast in a keen early battle. OUR ECHO (5) got going when the race was all over and was beaten under two lengths when resuming over 1200m at Toowoomba last start. Improved sharply to score second up over this trip last prep so there is a nice sense of deja vu about this assignment. TOLEMAC (7) is the hard one to line up. Over from NZ when he last raced seven weeks ago in the Derby and was beaten just 3.5 lengths. Has the class edge but fitness is the big query. NICHOLAS (4) wasn't suited up to the mile last time out and put in his first bad run this prep. Big chance back to this distance. MYWIFESAIDNO (1) to add value to multis. SELECTIONS: #5 Our Echo to win, but save on #7 Tolemac if any money comes.
Mornington: Race 4 @ 2:15pm
Not a lot of early speed to report. Tatiara, Martini Blanco and Jenefactor will be prominent. EVIE MATILDA (1) has placed at all four starts this campaign including a first up win. She's drawn to get an economical run from gate one and she can notch another win dropping in grade. TATIARA (3) drops in grade from City racing where she has been running well without winning. She should appreciate the rise in distance and can go close in this race. JENEFACTOR (4) was a good Maiden winner last time at this track and distance and can continue that good form here. SCAMPER (5) is a coming winner and may use this as a springboard to Group racing in Adelaide. Look for her late. MISS TIPI HAERE (2) is lightly raced and broke her Maiden at good odds last time. Worth watching. SELECTIONS: Stick with Evie Matilda
Penola: Race 7 @ 4:15pm (AEST)
Cause We Can to lead the Cup field. NASHVILLE SOUND (7) is a promising stayer who missed a nose resuming at this distance range. Is back further improved and should be winning this from the rail with the leading hoop on first time. PASS THE GLASS (3) has won two of the last three and did it well here the latest. Draws low and should manage the extra trip. CAUSE WE CAN (6) runs along and is right in this if we forgive the latest. Posted a strong figure at the Parks prior and that stacks right up. FLOW METER (1) draws out but will be around the mark. SELECTIONS: Keen on #7 Nashville Sound.
Albany: Race 1 @ 3:00pm (AEST)
Quiet Whisper to lead at a leisurely tempo. PURE GEM (2) led and kicked but was collared late over 2000m at Mt Barker last start in open company. Is a winner at this trip and drops in grade so can go one better. NOT AGAIN KEN (1) was never on the track but battled on well to be beaten just 2.3 lengths over the mile at Ascot last time out. Has been a risk at this trip before but with no pace and a small field he gets his chance. MR PAGO (3) chimed in late to grab 3rd over 1600m at this track last start. Placed 2/2 at today's distance so watch for him late under the light weight. Hard to get excited about the others. SELECTIONS: #2 Pure Gem is well-placed to win the opener.
