Punter Takes A Leap Of Faith

3 minute read

The 2019 Warrnambool May Racing Carnival doesn’t begin until Tuesday but one TAB punter can’t wait for the action to begin after placing $100,000 on Zed Em to win Thursday’s Grand Annual Steeplechase.

The punter has placed bets of $20,000 at $2.60, $20,000 at $2.50 and $60,000 at $2.30 which will result in a collect of $240,000 if Zed Em – runner-up in last year’s Grand Annual Steeplechase – goes one better on Thursday.

“The field for the Grand Annual Steeplechase will be finalised on Monday, but this TAB punter does not appear to be fazed about who Zed Em will potentially face in the 5500 metre event,” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.

“The customer who has placed these bets was the punter who wagered $80,000 at $1.33 on Zed Em to win last Saturday’s Great Eastern Steeplechase at Oakbank when the market was available for betting on April 17.”

Zed Em is the $2.30 favourite for Thursday’s Grand Annual Steeplechase on the third and final day of the 2019 TAB Warrnambool May Racing Carnival ahead of Slowpoke Rodriguez ($4) and last year’s winner Gold Medals ($6.50).
