After being runner-up twice in recent starts in Group class, Strasbourg broke through with an impressive effort in winning here. He was again ridden quietly and settled back in 10th place, on the rails from his good barrier (2). Tommy Berry switched him deeper rounding the home turn, the colt then sprinted well, hit the front at the 50m and went on to win nicely. Accession settled in sixth place on the rails, got a split at the 200m and finished really well for (neck) second. Garibaldi soon took the lead and then set a solid tempo. He then fought back very gamely when challenged in the straight and held on well for third after running a bold race. Czarson was smartly away from his inside barrier (1), Blake Shinn then eased him to enjoy a good trip behind the leaders before getting through to challenge coming to the 200m. But he just kept fighting on from that point for (1.4 lengths) fourth, looking tested by the advance to 1400m. The $151 chance Ballistic Boy raced near the tail of the field, got along the inner at the home turn and then battled on surprisingly well for (2.7 lengths) fifth, while talented filly Gem Of Scotland was caught deep from her difficult barrier (12), moved up (three wide) at the 600m and then held on well for (3.4 lengths) sixth after a taxing trip.
