In a keenly contested finish where the first five-horses finished within a length, the favourite Deprive scored by the smallest of margins. He enjoyed a good trip in fifth place on the rails, went through to third on straightening and after taking the lead at the 100m, he fought back to score by a nose. Trope settled back in second-last place in the 11-horse field and then ran on really well in the straight to fail by the barest of margins in second in a very promising first-up performance. Bon Amis was seventh to the home turn and then finished really well for a close-up third just in front of Con Te Partiro who ran on particularly well in restricted room for (0.7 lengths) fourth with Godolphin's import Cascadian running on in good style from last at the home turn for fifth, beaten a length, in a promising effort at his Australian debut.
