Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at metropolitan TAB meetings for September 14.

Flemington: Race 9 @ 5.25pm

CAPTAIN COOK (6) is ready to win now. Terrific first up and then built on that second up when chasing a good winner. This trip suits and he has the fitness edge on plenty of these. Can say the same of LAURE ME IN (17) who is far from the best horse in the race but looks a key chance on the back up from last week where he ran well. DAL HARRAILD (2) and SPANISH STEPS (9) are two that are sure to be better for the outing off long breaks but betting around them will be key. Good horses when up and going. HANG MAN (14) will run a much better race. Could be one to poke forward at this trip. SELECTION: #6 Captain Cook for the win.

Doomben: Race 1 @ 11.47am

GALTERO (5) covered ground last start so there was merit in his effort to finish better than midfield. Drawn to get a much better run here and was strong when winning by 2.3L here two back. Big chance. BOOM BOOM EPIC (3) was only run down late when placed last start and was an Eagle Farm winner three back. He may be the one to dictate the pace and that could see him hard to catch. CLEVANICC (6) heads north worth some decent NSW form. Closed well to place at Canterbury last start so the longer distance should suit. OUTRAGED (2) drops in grade and won in this company two back while CORMAC (4) is peaking so could do better. SELECTION: #5 Galtero looks well placed. Backing to win.

Rosehill: Race 4 @ 2.00pm

DABIYR (3) displayed sharp improvement back to firm ground at Moonee Valley last start when simply far too good over 2500m. Returned a new career peak and sets up well off the back of that effort. JMac takes over and he should prove very hard to beat. COSTELLO (6) was very good on unsuitable ground last start and looms as a major threat with Nash aboard, while CASTEL SANT'ANGELO (11) also has to be respected. SELECTION: Very keen on #3 Dabiyr.

Morphettville: Race 4 @ 3.01pm (AEST)

BLUE MORPHO (1) is the best one in this line up. She has good form against better and will love the added 250m. She won't need to be so far back this time either in the small field. DIAPASON (3) should be ready now third up. Is bred to want twice as far but the good track is more important. SWEET MISCHIEF (2) struggled in far harder on a heavy track a month ago. Her prior form was fine. FLOP (4) was close up last week. She can place again. CONCONI (7) found the line nicely here in an easier race recently. SELECTION: Keen on #1 Blue Morpho.

Belmont: Race 6 @ 5.18pm (AEST)

TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN (5) is the up and comer who has smashed them in midweek company in both starts this time in. Should handle this class and is hard to beat. BUNKER BUSTER (2) hit form quickly with a strong finishing win second-up and handles the extra trip. Sure to be competitive. BLACKWOOD RIVER (3) can mix his form but up in trip on last couple and entitled to another chance on best efforts. MR ALBY (1) is in the mix and REGENT STAR (9) has each-way claims. SELECTION: #5 Too Close To The Sun to win.
