Sale: Race 7 @ 4.10pm

ROMANCER (5) meets Rox The Castle four kilos better from their last meeting where there wasn't much between them. He's drawn ideally and is close to another win stepping up to 1600m. Hard to beat. ROX THE CASTLE (3) has met every challenge this preparation winning three of his past four starts including two at Listed level. Gets up in the weights now but is the danger. MANDELA EFFECT (8) also gets a weight turnaround on Rox The Castle from last start and is ready to fire third up. GOLD FIELDS (7) could be value having beaten Dr Drill two starts ago and is a four time winner at the distance. PUSHIN' SHAPES (4) is holding his form in Victoria and it wouldn't surprise to see him go close here. SELECTION: #5 Romancer looks a strong hope of taking out the Cup.

Townsville: Race 2 @ 3.05pm (AEDT)

A stack of speed anticipated with the big field facing the starter - Galiazzo is the probable leader. DEIGO BAY (1) made significant inroads in the straight despite racing wide throughout to get up for 3rd on debut over 1000m at this track last start. Very hard to hold out this time over an extra furlong. DISTRACTED (4) recorded his fourth minor placing in eight starts when a fast-finishing 3rd over 1400m at this track 26 days ago. Goes back again from a wide gate but can wind up down the long straight and play a role in the finish. TICKET KEEPER (7) raced handy and battled on okay into 3rd place over 1560m at Mackay last time out. Back sharply in distance but the hot tempo will assist. NORWEGIAN WOOD (13) ran easily the best race of her three-start career when beaten just 1.3 lengths over 1000m here recently. Lightweight hope. TIDES OF TOKYO (15) did her best work late on debut and is suited over an extra 200m. SELECTION: #1 Deigo Bay ready to win over the longer trip.

Port Lincoln: Race 4 @ 3.20pm (AEDT)
Speed across the barriers and a number capable of leading. RODNEY (13) has missed a lip both runs back with the latest in stronger at the Bridge. He will be on-speed and the improver rates to take this out. KIROSHIMA (3) presents off provincial Maidens and has the figures to win this at best. Gets the claim and can run along from the rail. BLUE GRANITE (6) is a leader who has to cross from a wide draw. He's knocking on the door and gets another chance. MANDALA (4) can improve but a minor slot looks best. SELECTION: #13 Rodney looks well set-up.

Northam: Race 7 @ 7:35pm (AEDT)

Booma Lacka can lead the Cup field from Flow. TELLEM WE'RE COMIN (2) is a well-performed Listed performer presenting off a big win in the Hannans Handicap posting a big career best. Out to the mile now and can salute again with Pike sticking for the leading yard. CUP NIGHT (5) has won the last two with the latest in an Ascot 78. He draws to get a good run and is an improver who could prove a danger. TAXAGANO (9) will use the rail and the form is good enough to deserve close attention. NEUROLOGICAL (3) missed a lip 43 days ago at Belmont at Listed level also running his best race and has trialled since. Draws well and will be in the finish. SELECTION: #2 Tellem We're Comin will be further improved and can keep things rolling.

The Logan McGill-trained gelding Gold Fields took his record to ten wins from 45 starts with a good effort in registering his first stakes success here. He began well and soon settled outside the leader (Rox The Castle), travelling at a reasonable tempo. He put pressure on that runner nearing the home turn, got to the front halfway down the straight and then held off challengers to win well. Mandela Effect had a good trip in fourth place, tracking the eventual winner. He moved up at the home turn and then kept battling on under riding to take second. Romancer had a nice trip in third place on the rails, got into clear running at the 100m and then fought on for third, just in front of Mr Money Bags who battled on for fourth after being wide at various stages with the leader Rox The Castle weakening over the latter stages for fifth.
