Sydney Specials : Rosehill - 9th November 2019

3 minute read

The best is saved until the lucky last of the day through the nine race card at Rosehill.

The John O’Shea-trained Bergen lines up in the Eden Brae Homes Benchmark 78 3YO+ Handicap off two solid runs to commence his latest preparation.

Bergen resumed with a second at Warwick Farm to Sakura in a race which has since held up well at midweek level having produced three subsequent winners (Sakura, Dunbrody Power and Tahsin).

The son of Your Song was then stepped up noticeably in both class and distance where he ran a creditable sixth behind Romani Girl contesting a 1500m Benchmark 78 Handicap at Randwick.

Under the guidance of Rachel King, the four-year-old landed outside the early lead and fought hard in the straight however was no match for the swoopers late.

Sure Knee who finished eighth has since come out and won a mares race during the Flemington Carnival.

The runner up in the event was Final Award who Bergen now meets 1kg better at the weights for just a three-quarter length defeat.

The last event at Randwick doesn’t possess a great deal of Saturday metropolitan form and the Benchmark 78 Handicap Bergen contested last start shapes as the pick of the form lines.

A slight drop back in trip to 1400m with added fitness third run from a spell shapes as a winning combination for Bergen.

Add to that just an even early tempo on paper and Bergen who should land prominent can continue his progression through the grades.

We look toward the Group 2 Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) for our value play of the afternoon, the somewhat maligned Dyslexic.

Dyslexic enters the race off a luckless outing in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield on October 12 where she was trapped three wide with no cover throughout.

The daughter of Foxwedge prior to that had finished on the heels of Mizzy in each of her first three runs this campaign.

Since Dyslexic’s third to Mizzy in the Golden Pendant, Mizzy has come out and placed in both the Silver Eagle and the Golden Eagle won by Kolding.

The Nivison Stakes won by Madam Rouge a fortnight ago is the formline which has attracted the lion’s share of the market for Saturday’s Group 2 Hot Danish Stakes.

Ratings suggest it shouldn’t be so clear cut with well performed mares such as Dyslexic and Luvaluva  currently quoted at double figures.

A major positive for Dyslexic on Saturday is the booking of Tommy Berry (pictured on Mizzy above) who has hit the ground running in season 2019/20.

Berry has produced 40 wins at a strike rate of 18.2% for the season and finds another gear at Rosehill where he boasts a strike rate of 20.6% with seven wins from 34 starts at a healthy profit on turnover of 33%.
