A Beautiful Night, a filly from the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable, followed her good win over 1000m at Flemington on New Year's Day when having her second race start, with a smart performance in taking out this Group 3 race. She was smartly away and soon went to the front, travelling comfortably, before grabbing a break at the 200m. She then fought back gamely, holding off a late challenge to score well. The favourite Fresh began well but was trapped deep from her wide barrier (11), racing in sixth place. She moved up (four wide) rounding the home turn, was under pressure at the 200m and then rallied well, making up late ground for (long neck) second. Unstoppabelle was slowly away from her inside barrier (1) and settled in last place on the rails. She eased deeper on straightening, took a split at the 200m and then ran on well to gain third in a photo, staging a good effort. Bella Nipotina settled in fourth place, one out and one back, moved up nearing the home turn, was in a challenging position at the 200m and then battled on well for (2.3 lengths) fourth with Award Winner making ground for (2.4 lengths) fifth after settling well back in the field from a difficult barrier.
