Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at TAB meetings for February 2.
Sapphire Coast: Race 7 @ 5:05pm
Mercurial Lad runs them along. Today's feature. ALL HARD WOOD (7) is lightly-raced for a five year old. Did enough first-up off a lengthy spell when midfield at Flemington. Perfect timing here second-up at the mile. Drawn for the perfect run. Hard to find any excuses. MERCURIAL LAD (1) is rocks or diamonds. His past two starts are perfect examples of that. Tenacious winner at Randwick two back but was the first horse beat at Rosehill more recently. Didn't lead at Rosehill and his stats aren't flash there either so perhaps entitled to overlook that. Loves to bowl along. Earnt $430,000 so deserves all the weight. Will take some catching if he's in the zone. KATIE DID IT (13) has been thrown in the deep end. She defeated a moderate bunch at Qbyn last start, making it three on the trot. Big test for her here but down in the weights and drawn perfectly. NICCONITA (9) will be flashing home. She's a good horse on her day but needs all the breaks. SELECTION: #7 All Hard Wood in the Cup.

Strathalbyn: Race 1 @ 1:20pm (AEDT)
STOLEN AWAY (1) won the CL1 here as expected and then led and only gave it away late at Gawler in stronger than this. Gets the 2kg claim today and is clearly the one to beat running along. BLINKY O'REILLY (2) will be better for the first-up run and has more to give. Up to the mile suits him. KEYSORE (4) didn't do a bad job at Bordertown and finally gets a low gate. He won't be far away. DENOMINATOR next, forgiving the latest. SELECTION: #1 Stolen Away can bounce.
Bunbury: Race 3 @ 4:45pm
WATTO'S REWARD (13) improved again beaten 1L here 18 days ago. Draws to advantage and is ready to win. MAGIC EMPIRE (1) also brings strong form to peak. Will have to push over from a wide gate and will go close managing that. MODERATOR (6) has to come back from a middle distance but gets Pike first time and the blinkers applied again. He's a chance. REDMILL (3) is knocking on the door, but he'll likely settle back requiring a good ride. SELECTION: Looks the right race for the filly #13 Watto's Reward at the bottom of the weights.
Sunshine Coast: Race 7 @ 5:30pm (AEDT)
CABOCHON LIL (12) won the Maiden easily here as expected and then got too far back at Doomben also as favourite. Not sure where she gets to from the rail, but peaks now and is well-placed in this line-up. HIGHLAND SKIPPER (2) brings strong form and is back in trip off the heavy track placing as favourite. The low gate advantages and he's a leading player. HELSUN (1) just missed at Doomben in the Maiden and then was a big CL1 winner there 10 days ago. Needs a good ride but is a chance to repeat. CLEAR SAILING (10) may be best of the rest. SELECTION: #12 Cabochon Lil may have an edge.
