Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for major Australian thoroughbred meetings on January 16.
Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Rosehill, Flemington, Gold Coast, Ascot & Launceston.
ROSEHILL: RACE 5 @ 3:15 PM
COUNT DE RUPEE (10) caught the eye late last start when closing off well behind Private Eye. Should be nearing his top now and sets up well back in trip getting onto a firmer track. Drawn well for O'Hara and should prove very hard to beat. HE'S A HOTSHOT (6) was no match for All Time Legend last start, but still ran well and has to be included again from the middle draw. COGNAC (1) will be better over further, but is still a big watch in his AUS debut. Rates very well on his UK form and a market watch is strongly advised. LANCASTER BOMBER (3) the best of the rest.
SELECTIONS: Very keen on Count De Rupee.

ASCOT: RACE 5 @ 3:30 PM
MAGICAL DREAM (5) is a talented filly who is yet to be beaten fresh and looks well placed to keep that intact here. Big effort at Group 3 before a break. Take beating. OUR DANNI (3) is racing very well and while up to 1200m can't be overlooked. HOT MIX (11) is a promising type who looked good winning her first two starts. Left it too late last time but right in this. KEEP YOUR FEET (6) and ALL DAY SESSION (2) are well worth including.
SELECTIONS: Magical Dream to win.
GOLD COAST: RACE 9 @ 5:20 PM
BEAUFORT PARK (9) made a good return when he kept chasing for third to race rival Macewen having finished last campaign with four successive wins. Has two wins and two placings from four second up attempts so should be improved and has won five from nine at this distance. Makes strong each way appeal from a good draw. MACEWEN (4) found winning form when scoring by half a length at Eagle Farm last time. At peak fitness and is unbeaten here. Could do it again. YAMAZAKI (10) hit the line well when resuming over 1200m at Randwick. Fitter and has a 50 per cent strike rate at this longer distance. Leading contender. THE ODYSSEY (2) has been mixing his form lately but didn't miss by much last start. BOOMTOWN LASS (6) is consistent and not to be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Backing Beaufort Park each way second up.
MURRAY BRIDGE: RACE 3 @ 1:27 PM
ECHOES OF ETERNITY (6) ran well behind a handy one in Tradewind at Morphettville on the Parks track before going to Flemington where she was solid behind Alleboom down the straight. She’s looks well placed from a perfect gate. DAILY SPIRIT (5) has been runner-up her past three, the latest behind Indian Gazelle at Gawler. She draws a good gate and must be respected. POINT BLAZE (9) jumped out well before a handy return when he closed late beaten just a length behind Impossible Action. He draws a sticky gate but has appeal. SPINOLA BAY (11) found the line well behind Indian Gazelle last time out at Gawler. KUNGKA MARU (7) looked pretty forward in a recent Morphettville jump-out when she showed good speed. STRIKE THE NIGHT (12) ran well behind Three Tears but this race looks a touch harder.
SELECTIONS: Echoes In Eternity to win
