Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 24.
SALE: RACE 8 @ 4:50 PM
AMERICAIN ANGEL (13) just missed on the Heavy last start when resuming as an odds on favourite. She was competitive last time in work behind Brookspire and Smokin' Romans prior to finishing close up to Media Award in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks. She can win here on the way to better races. REQUITED (3) impressed at this track last start in a good form race behind Saltpeter and Part Time Lover. A repeat performance would make him a good gamble each way. WASCALY (8) is lightly raced and progressive. He finished close up behind the talented Brawl last start with a good gap to third. He's on an upward spiral and should measure up to this class. FIRSTCLASS DREAMER (1) has been very consistent of late and is a must for multiples. MANASA (14) can be forgiven for last start when she didn't appear to handle the Heavy. She can bounce back out to this trip if the ground is firmer. SELECTIONS: Americain Angel is the one to beat.

COONABARABRAN: RACE 2 @ 1:45 PM
AARKUS (4) caught the eye on debut when well in the market, flashing late to finish 3rd. He will appreciate the bigger track and extra distance and he gets the gun draw. GIRRAGULANG (3) has been in the market both starts to date, finishing 2nd both times and he can figure in this event from the god draw. JADE (10) has finished a close 2nd at her previous 3 starts. She draws awkwardly but she is capable of winning this race if luck goes her way. LAN KWAI FONG (11) resumed from a long spell (327 days) when rattling home to finish 4th when first-up. She shapes to be a big improver second-up in this race. LIPSTICK LIL (7) is another consistent galloper that draws well and can figure in the finish. SELECTIONS: Aarkus to win.
PORT MACQUARIE: RACE 4 @ 2:40 PM
The stayers get their chance here. SWING THE TIDE (5) looks one of the better bets on the program. She returned from a spell (148 days) when running back-to-back 2nd placings before winning her maiden in strong fashion last time out. She has been hitting the line strongly in recent efforts and she could be too strong for them off the okay draw. Looker (1:1-0) stays on board which offers more confidence. LAPHROAIG (1) has the kms in the legs to run the distance and he has been solid in recent efforts, finishing 5th over this distance in a tougher race last time out. Before that he finished 2nd when storming home late over a shorter distance. LADY SAMURAI (4) finished a nice 3rd last start and she should appreciate the jump up in distance. ABOUT THE MOON (10) is a maiden (7:0-1) but she flew late to finish 2nd when put over some ground for the first time in this class. She draws off the track but she could be flashing late. AVASHIIN (2) will be working hard and is one for the exotics. SELECTIONS: Swing The Tide to win.
SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 5 @ 3:20 PM
MACQUARIE STAR (9) has had just the one run for a one length third at Ipswich on a soft track when sent out at $9.00. Will strip a lot fitter for that run and this field does look a lot easier than her previous start. Rates as one of the hardest to beat. ELEGANT DROVER (1) returns from a spell following a last start 0.8 length second of six runners at this track when well backed to close at $3.00. On his form from just thee starts has to be a good each-way chance. UZERLI (8) is backing up quickly following a last start second here last week at long odds of $26. Looking close to breaking his maiden status. CANNY CAT (4) has good recent form including a last start second of 13 when the $2.70 favourite. Meets a slightly tougher field here but can place at good odds. SELECTIONS: Macquarie Star looks one of the best winning chances today.
NORTHAM: RACE 1 @ 3:47 PM (AEDT)
DESERT VIXEN (4) resumed in a much tougher race last start at Ascot and finished on late from the tail of the field after being checked before the turn. Clearly the one to beat in this grade. HERE'S DREAMING (6) wasn't too bad when placing third at Kalgoorlie last start and looked to be in need of the run. She will be much fitter second up and should be thereabouts at the finish. WITHOUT REG (1) won a trial prior to his debut and was sent out favourite. He wasn't beaten far and looks to be a promising type. Include in all multiples. DELTA ANNE (9) indicated her readiness by placing second at her most recent trial. A bold effort can be expected. SELECTIONS: Desert Vixen win.
PORT LINCOLN: RACE 5 @ 3:55 PM (AEDT)
MISS CATASTROPHI (8) looked very good winning first-up over this course and distance and can go right on with the job now. Strips fitter and is clearly the one they all have to run down. AVORA SUN (6) returned in fine fashion with a handy second here and will take plenty of benefit from that hit-out. Looks a danger. TAJAVEDO (1) is a four-time winner over this track and trip and gets 1.5kg off with the claim. Should be in the finish. ARTFULABEERS (11) gets 2kg weight relief and can earn a cheque. WINTER HARBOUR (2) nest best from the low draw. SELECTIONS: Miss Catastrophi to win.
ST ARNAUD: RACE 8 @ 4:25 PM
MORTON'S FORK (1) returned to form with a solid win at Avoca at third run for new stable. This is fourth run in a row in a country cup and looks tough to hold out. EQUINE PHILOSOPHER (5) won two on end before rising in grade to just miss out last time. Fit and in form and won't be far away. FLORIDA DREAM (3) made up plenty of ground on heavy track at Moe last time. Sale winner four starts back and has to be included in the hopes. SWELTER MAGIC (4) led and gave a good sight last start when going under narrowly. In contention again. SELECTIONS: Back Morton's Fork to win.
