TRIAL POINTERS

RANDWICK July 9: Mark Newnham's Capitalist gelding RUSSIAN STANDARD won his fifth trial with another strong display in his 1050m heat (64.65; 36.13), cruising home by 4.2 lengths. It's obvious he is much better than his failure on debut at Gosford back in February. The filly NEW YORK GAL, beaten at Canberra at her only start, was an impressive second, reeling off a fast last 200m as she sprinted hard to the line from midfield.

GOSFORD July 6: There were some nice 2YO trials but none better than the performance of Godolphin's Lonhro filly LAURELIN to win the fastest 800m heat for the age group (49.17; 36.87). She was very confident in the conditions and had plenty in reserve scoring by 3.6 lengths.

CANTERBURY July 2:  Expect improvement from the Godolphin youngster BRIGANTINE the next time this Astern colt goes to the races. Travelled wide under an easy ride in his 895m heat and extended impressively under no pressure to cruise to a 3.4 lengths win in one of the fastest trials of the morning (56.39; 36.60). Another good heat winner was the unraced I Am Invincible colt GOVERNOR, who had taken the eye with a strong finish in his first synthetic trial at Warwick Farm. This time he was a lot sharper, taking up the lead and having no trouble holding his rivals in his 895m heat (57.90; 39) for a soft win.

WARWICK FARM June 25: GOVERNOR finished third in the fastest synthetic heat over 740m (43.08; 33.09). Showed no early speed but made up good ground under a quiet ride and was strong through the line

RANDWICK June 21: RUSSIAN STANDARD has the obvious ability to win races. Sprinted hard to the line from off the pace to win his 780m heat on the synthetic track in fast time (45.35; 33.17) with Josh Parr giving a solid sound out over the last 200m.
