RANDWICK October 19

A Grass; Good 4

15 Heats – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 7 x 1045m (3 Open; 4 Maiden); 6 x 742m (1 2YO; 2 Open; 3 Maiden)

A strong set of trials that will prepare a big number of these runners for their summer campaigns. Joe Pride has his team flying with stand out trials by his in-form stars PRIVATE EYE and BALLISTIC LOVER.

PRIVATE EYE (Joe Pride): A super trial by the Epsom winner showed that he remains in rude health and ready to take on his next challenge. He reeled off a fast last 200m to steam home into third place in a strong open heat over 1045m (63.31; 33.91) won in good style by the classy DAWN PASSAGE, another who has trialled impressively in preparation for the start of his summer campaign.

BALLISTIC LOVER (Joe Pride): This flying mare is another in peak form, showing she had maintained her speed and fitness after two excellent performances at Moonee Valley in Melbourne where she won the G2 Carlyon Stakes before her fourth in the G1 Moir Stakes. She flew over 742m in her short course heat to win by almost five lengths in brilliant time (41.71; 31.54).

Epsom failure RIODINI bounced back from his Epsom flop to dominate the fastest of the two 1200m heats (72.69; 34.38). The other 1200m heat (74.11; 34.65) was won by his stablemate KOONDEEMAN, a main runner who looks capable of picking up a race soon after having the measure of some better performed rivals.

The fastest 1045m heat was won by ROCK THE BELLS (62.52; 34.31). He was pushed out to win with the talented trio NEWSREADER, BLAZING MISS and LOVE TAP responsible for the better efforts in this heat. LILY ELSIE impressed winning the fastest maiden heat win over 1045m (62.73; 35.13) with ICING ON THE CAKE (62.82; 35.25) also posting good time in his heat win but there were numerous good efforts in these heats from the likes TAVI L'AMOUR, PIZARRO, AVOIDANCE and SEND ME A MESSAGE.

Nothing got close to Ballistic Lover's time in the 742m heats but there was plenty of merit in the maiden heat wins by BARTOSELLI (43.70; 33.33) and TWILIGHT AFFAIR (43.24; 32.78), a 4YO mare by Zoustar who had not been seen since she trialled as a 2YO in 2019.

The only 2YO heat over 742m was dominated by Waterhouse/Bott youngsters with four of their team performing in good style to fill the first four placings. The winner COMMAND APPROVED went about it in professional style to score in good time (43.23; 32.78).

HAWKESBURY October 18

Inside Grass; Soft 5

14 Heats – 1 x 1250m (Open); 5 x 1000m (2 Open; 3 Maiden); 8 x 800m (2 Open; 3 2YO; 3 Maiden)

As is the norm at Hawkesbury sessions there were big numbers from the Godolphin stable with the blue runners winning six of the 14 heats.

James Cummings would have been pleased with the trials of his proven older horses LACKEEN, MUNITIONS and KATALIN in their open heats while he has another good batch of younger maidens ready to make their mark when they go to the races.

CREAM RISES (Kylie Gavenlock) dominated the 1250m open heat (74.33; 33.61) from the front but it was the closing effort of the import LACKEEN to finish third from well off the pace that really took the eye. His first Australian win should come his way soon.

MUNITIONS and KATALIN won their open heats over 1000m in moderate times (Munitions 60.50/33.88; Katalin 62.85; 34.79). The smart maiden heat winners EASY ROSIE (60.15; 33.94) and FIRST PEOPLES (59.64; 34.96) were quicker on the clock.

The Daniel Robinson-trained FIRST PEOPLES is an unraced Wandjina 4YO who was having only his second trial and looked sharp winning by 2.3 lengths. Cummings won the other maiden heat over 1000m with TRANSFORMATION (60.82; 34.83), an Exceed And Excel 3YO who ran past the leaders under a quiet ride and looks to have come on from his three unplaced starts in Victoria last season.

Godolphin has two nice prospects in the 800m maiden heat winners CAPO STRADA and ARGENTADO. They shared the best time among the eight 800m heat winners (46.96) with the unraced Lonhro filly ARGENTADO posting the faster 600m sectional (32.84) getting the upper hand late in her heat without any undue pressure.

In the open heats over 800m the Brad Widdup-trained QUEEN BELLISSIMO (47.28; 33.22) and Godolphin's DESTINATION (47.51; 32.82) did all that was required to post smart wins.

The three 2YO heats were won by AMONG US (49.47; 35.05), INEQUALITY (48.81; 34.15) and CHAIN OF GOLD (47.91; 33.73). CHAIN OF GOLD is a racy Sooboog colt with the natural speed to perform well on debut while the closing second of DIAMOND CITY, a youngster by Ilovethiscity from the Annabel Neesham yard, in the heat won by INEQUALITY stamped him as one with definite potential.
