RANDWICK November 23

A Grass; Soft 7

18 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 10 x 1050m (2 Open; 2 2YO; 6 Maiden); 7 x 742m (2 2YO; 1 Open; 1 3YO Fillies; 2 3YO C & G; 1 Maiden)

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott always like to see their team run in their trials and not surprisingly they won six heats with lightly raced prospects. Mark Newnham and John O'Shea also picked up three heats a piece with some likely types.

BLACK ON BEAUTY (John O'Shea): This unraced Zoustar filly is ready to rock as she has now won three of her four trials in preparation for her debut. This was another strong effort as she was always in control travelling well within herself to post one of the faster wins in the 1050m heats (63.85; 35.60).

SOLVERE (Anthony Cummings): Second trial for this unraced Rubick gelding saw him fly the start and lead easily under a strong hold. Pushed along to maintain his speed over the last 200m, winning by five lengths in the fastest of the 10 heats over 1050m (63.46; 36.21).

STORMBORN (Mark Newnham): Good to see a very positive trial from this smart mare in her first appearance since August. Jumped straight to the front and really liked the way she extended over the last 200m to post the fastest win in the 742m heats by more than three lengths (43.55; 33.40). Suspect we will see the best of her this prep.

TWILIGHT AFFAIR (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): Another impressive trial from this unraced 4YO mare by Zoustar. She's now won three trials since October 19 and was again emphatic leading easily and extending under no pressure for a soft win by 3.7 lengths in her 1050m heat (63.94; 36.10).

Waterhouse and Bott won both 2YO heats over 1050m with RISE OF THE MASSES (64.02; 35.61) and GOLDEN QUEEN (64.78; 36.60). They both won by good margins after they were pushed out over the last 200m and hold scope for improvement. The two 2YO heats over 742m were won by JUNQUEIRA (44.31; 34.10) and CALIFORNIA DEEPLY (45.79; 34.95). The relative times clearly point to the filly JUNQUEIRA but there was nothing special about the performances.
