Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney and provincial barrier trials at Randwick (March 31); Warwick Farm (April 3); Newcastle (April 3; Rosehill (April 6) and Hawkesbury (April 6).
ROSEHILL April 6
Inside Grass; Heavy 8
11 Heats – 3 x 1030m (2 Open; 1 Maiden); 8 x 900m (1 Open; 4 2YO; 2 3YO; 1 C1)
Obvious performances of note came from the heat winners PANCHO; COSTELLO; SNITZ and CARDIFF but this was session full of horses having easy exercise, not the least being the exciting MASTER OF WINE who had very soft hitout in his 900m heat in preparation for his big test in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Others to take the eye included THE LORD MAYOR; BANDERSNATCH; SRINI; OVERLORD; MACLEAY and HUMAN NATURE.
X Pancho; The Lord Mayor; Sambro; Costello; Bandersnatch; Srini; Snitz; Our Flaming Moes; Carolina Fire; Peltzer; Overlord; Spokesman; Macleay; Bold Spice; Pyrmont; Saffiano; Cadenabbia; Cardiff; Human Nature; Gallant Run; Anubis; Momack; Sally's Day.

An easy hit out for @HawkesRacing Master Of Wine @rosehillgardens on Monday morning, he's an $8 chance with @tabcomau in Saturday's Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes @royalrandwick. The @mattydunnracing trained Snitz won the 900m heat. @7horseracing pic.twitter.com/CDgs7AP0i0

HAWKESBURY April 6
Inside Grass; Soft 6
7 Heats – 5 x 1000m (3 Open; 1 Maiden; 1 2YO); 2 x 760m (1 Open; 1 2YO)
Interesting to note that Racing NSW listed these trials as exclusively for Hawkesbury-trained horses yet there were a number of prominent runners from the Godolphin stable scattered through the heats?
The Godolphin team all worked well within themselves. Taken by the strong heat wins of the Brad Widdup stablemates TRIESTE and PUISSANT.
NOTED TRIALS
XX TrIeste; Puissant
X Trengganu; Jetski; Multaja; Adelong; Badajoz; Jokes; Exhilarates.

WARWICK FARM April 3
Heavy 9; 21 Heats
A Grass - 2 x 1200m (Open)
Polytrack – 19 Heats 17 x 740m (5 Open; 1 3YO; 8 2YO; 3 Maiden); 2 x 1175m (2 Open)
With only two 1200m heats on the A Grass this was the biggest set of trials we have seen on the Polytrack for some time. The warning here is synthetic trial form rarely proves as reliable as turf trials.
NOTED TRIALS

NEWCASTLE April 3
Beaumont Grass; Soft 7
16 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 5 x 1000m (3 Open; 2 Maiden); 10 x 800m (2 Open; 5 2YO; 3 Maiden)
NOTED TRIALS
X Graff; Le Romain; Holy Reign; Oakfield Twilight; Trumbull; Lucky One; Gogh Fox; Shimmering Light; Golden Tycoon; Rosaire; La Jolie Fille; Miss Kojiki; Midland; Irish Thunder; Kinloch; The Bopper; Stooge; Fantasy Eagle.
RANDWICK March 31
Kensington; Soft 6
6 Heats – 2 x 1250m (2 Open); 4 x 850m (2 Open; 2 2YO)
A small but select batch of heats that featured several notable Group performers.
HAPPY CLAPPER was unextended to win his 1200m heat in in 1.14.95 (36.20) with the imported OLMEDO given an easy time in third after leading. Talented Melbourne mare MISS SISKA could have improved on her time in the second 1200m heat as she worked well within herself for a soft win in 1.16.13 (36.90). SWEET THOMAS took the eye working home for third under no pressure.
The old warrior Happy Clapper wore them down in this morning's trial and came home strongly to win the trial over 1250m @racing_nsw pic.twitter.com/AaJBABDlrx

The classy COSMIC FORCE was back on his game in the first 850m heat, clearing out for an impressive 7.3 lengths win in 49.86 (33.20). By comparison the good Godolphin sprinter VIRIDINE clocked 51.37 (34.50) winning the second open heat with plenty in reserve.
There will be a queue to back the unraced 2YO filly ELIZABEEL after she outclassed the well performed STELLA PAULINE by an easy 2.5 lengths in the best of the two 2YO heats, recording 50.74 (34.20). Her previous trials have also been noted and she is a youngster with obvious potential.
NOTED TRIALS:
XX Cosmic Force; Elizabeel
X Happy Clapper; Olmedo, Miss Siska; Sweet Thomas; Viridine; Only Mine; Velorum.
