Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney and provincial barrier trials at Hawkesbury (October 19) and Warwick Farm (October 23).
WARWICK FARM October 23
Inside Grass; Good 4
14 Heats – 3 x 1200m (2 Open; 1 Maiden); 5 x 794m (1 2YO; 1 3YO; 3 Open); 6 x 791m (6 Maiden)
We have seen some big margin trial winners in recent weeks and this set threw up another batch of fast runners who won by panels after opening up big leads.
Most notable was the very fast MISS INVINCIBLE who kept extending her lead in her 794m heat to score by 13.5 lengths in the fastest of the five trials over the distance (45.92; 33.04). She will take catching in a short sprint if she can show this speed.
Other 794m heat winners to score by dominant margins included MISSION LEGEND, who looked good stretching out from the turn to score by five lengths despite his time being the slowest over the trip (46.91; 33.77). Top class filly DAME GISELLE had a very easy time working to the line for a soft third in this heat.
Other classy performers given easy times in their heats included DAWN PASSAGE, NIMALEE and PLAGUE STONE.
Looking forward to Saturday https://t.co/5XSY6TU7Er

PRINCESS OF MEYDAN recorded a fast 791m heat win (46.87; 33.89) by 3.3 lengths but her time was bettered by a DYNAMIC IMPACT (46.43; 33.79) who chased down the leader with a strong surge over the last 200m. Other maiden runners to take the eye included STOLTZ; MOREMI and KIKU.

HAWKESBURY October 19
Inside Grass; Good 4
15 Heats – 1 x 1250m (Open); 7 x 1000m (3 Open; 4 Maiden); 7 x 800m (1 2YO; 2 Open; 4 Maiden)
The usual representation from the Godolphin stable was supplemented by runners from top Randwick and Warwick Farm stables. Peter and Paul Snowden featured with fast maiden heat wins by CONTROVERT (46.96) and MISS DIOR (46.31) and a sharp 2YO winner NAJMATY (48.19) but the standout win of the morning was the impressive effort from the Godolphin mare VARDA.
VARDA (James Cummings): This talented Lonhro mare seems certain to add to her big strike rate of five wins from 10 starts after sprinting to an impressive win in the fastest of the seven 800m heats (46.26). She was three lengths off the leaders at the 200m but showed classy acceleration to race past some handy types in the last 50 metres for a soft win.
The 1000m open heats featured some nice trials from the well performed INTREPIDACIOUS, BRANDENBURG and ELEVEN ELEVEN while the maiden TITANIUM POWER set the time standard (58.82) with a strong win in his heat.
