Chris Scholtz reviews the Sydney barrier trials at Rosehill on November 30.
ROSEHILL November 30
Inside Grass; Good 4
17 Heats – 2 x 1030m (1 Open; 1 Maiden); 15 x 900m (6 2YO; 3 Open; 1 3YO; 5 Maiden)
The 2YOs generated most interest with six heats indicating the top stables are getting serious with their youngsters with the Magic Millions looming in January. Ciaron Maher and David Eustace would have been happy with the trial win of their good youngster FAKE LOVE while the Breeders Plate winner SHAQUERO (Chris Waller) had a very easy time in his 900m heat.
Fake Love's stablemate AWAY GAME, winner of last season's MM Classic, also had a soft time under Glen Boss, being held down for a close third in a fast 3YO heat over 900m won by MISSION RIVER (53.82; 34.10). It was a nice start to her prep for the MM Guineas at the Gold Coast next month.

Well performed sprinter POETIC CHARMER continues to impress in his trials and looks ready to perform first-up while the highly regarded maiden OVERLORD now that he has been gelded could be ready to live up to his obvious potential after an impressive heat win over 900m where he wore blinkers and looked a lot sharper than last prep.
FAKE LOVE (Ciaron Maher/David Eustace); Glen Boss gave this fast filly an easy time after she shared a contested lead in her 900m heat. She had too much class and speed over the last 300m, having no trouble running the fastest time in all the 15 heats over the distance (53.62; 34.34).

OVERLORD (Chris Waller): He's one of the best maidens going around but that should change over the summer after his strong return as a gelding to win his 900m heat in good time (53.94; 34.29). Settled a close third and tracked three wide to work up to the leaders on the turn before Hugh Bowman called on him to forge clear with the big gelding doing his best work over the last 100 metres.
Could this be the turning point for Overlord? The newly gelded @cwallerracing 3yo, already Group placed, wins a trial at @rosehillgardens over Santadeal and Readapt. @tabcomau pic.twitter.com/JLpU9LwJaj

POETIC CHARMER (Peter & Paul Snowden): Well performed 6YO has never gone better judging by the way he has performed in recent trials, winning a Randwick heat last month and again taking the eye with his surging third behind the good sprinting mare ATHIRI in his 900m heat at this session. The time was only fair (55.24; 34.52) but it was the way he made up many lengths from last at the 400m that made an impression. Worth noting he is at his best when first-up.
