TRIAL POINTERS

NEWCASTLE December 3: Talented mare STRAWB is a headache for her trainer Nathan Doyle but she passed her required trial before stewards with flying colours after her failure at Newcastle last month. STRAWB dwelt at the start in her 920m heat – a frequent worry in her races – before showing her class to easily reel in the leaders over the last 100m with a scintillating turn of foot. It was the quickest of the three 920m heats (53.46) and her last 600m was much faster than the time posted as the official leader to leader sectional (33.23).

ROSEHILL November 30: Glen Boss gave the fast filly FAKE LOVE an easy time after she shared a contested lead in her 900m heat. She had too much class and speed over the last 300m, having no trouble running the fastest time in all the 15 heats over the distance (53.62; 34.34). OVERLORD is one of the best maidens going around but that should change now that he has been gelded.  His strong return to win his 900m heat in good time (53.94; 34.29) was impressive after he settled a close third before Hugh Bowman called on him to forge clear with the big 3YO doing his best work over the last 100 metres.

GOSFORD November 25: MOUNT FUJI cost $2.8 million as a yearling and has been patiently handled since his only start as a 2YO last season. This was his third trial since that debut run and lot to like about the way he settled back in the field in his 1000m heat before stretching out when taken to the outside to record a strong win in the easily the quickest of the three maiden heats over the distance (60.35; 35.24). Definitely a work in progress.

RANDWICK November 24: SUMMERBEEL is a Savabeel filly is showing sharp precocity for her breeding, improving off a placing in her first trial on November 10 to travel easily in her 735m heat (43.39; 33.09) and score with plenty in hand by two lengths. It was the best of the four 2YO heats at this session.

RANDWICK November 10: Rachel King had a lap full of horse holding down SOUTHERN LAD for a strong win in his 1050m heat and while the time was slow (65.02; 34.44) he looks in the right form to perform boldly first-up given that he produces his best when fresh.
