RANDWICK May 28

A Grass; Soft 6

16 Heats – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 7 x 1050m (2 Open; 3 2YO; 2 Maiden); 7 x 736m (1 Open; 1 3YO; 4 2YO; 1 Maiden)

Good trials from a mix of quality performers while several lesser lights showed form that makes them worthy winter prospects.

CONSTRUCT (Peter & Paul Snowden): Breeders Plate placegetter looks ready to bounce back after indifferent autumn form. His impressive win in a fast 736m heat (43.24; 33.35) augers well for his coming campaign as he looked sharp letting down from off the pace with a strong sprint over the last 200m.

MURA MURA (Peter & Paul Swowden): Not the quickest of the 2YO heat winners over 1050m (64.22; 35.88) but visually impressive as she held the lead easily and was held back to the chasers as Kerrin McEvoy was intent on giving her an easy time. Placed in three of her first five starts and should have no trouble breaking her maiden.

SKEDADDLE (Les Bridge): This speedy I Am Invincible filly came off good trials to deliver a sharp debut win as an odds on favourite in February and looks set to go on with it after an unextended 3.2 lengths win in the 3YO heat over 736m (43.48; 33.30). A fillies sprint first-up would be ideal.

Maiden 3YO SMARTY LEE recorded the fastest win in the 1050m heats (63.96; 35.92) while another Snowden-trained 2YO BULLPEN had too much speed for his rivals in the fastest 736m heat (43.15; 33.20).

EMBRACER rebounded from his latest loss to win a strong open heat over 1050m (64.00; 34.91). I liked the work of G1 winner FLIT and honest mare TRICKY GAL over the last 200m in his heat. Another good mare FITUESE sprinted fast to the line from the rear to win her 1050m heat (64.33; 34.44).

Classy Group winner I AM SUPERMAN as never under pressure to record a soft win in his 1200m heat (74.54; 35.21) while the other 1200m heat run in faster time (74.41; 35.20) was keenly contested right to the line by PRIMITIVO and the Villiers Stakes winner SKY BOY.
