ROSEHILL November 6

Best Bets

RACE 7 (5) SHALATIN: Sometimes in this game you have to believe what you see and it certainly applies to this youngster after his remarkable debut effort to finish fifth in the Kirkham Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 23. Coming off one polytrack trial, he settled a long last from a wide gate before making up lengths, running splits from the 600m that were among the fastest of the day with his last 200m two seconds quicker than anything else in the race to be beaten only 1.75 lengths behind Ojai. Drawn to be a lot closer in the run this time and with his expected natural improvement it will be interesting to see what he is capable of in this good field.

RACE 8 (6) TRICKY GAL: She might not have won for some 14 months but is there an unluckier mare racing anywhere in Australia? Since that win she's been placed in seven black type races including her second to Savatiano in this race last year and most recently her first-up second in the G3 Nivison whern she should have beaten the classy Minhaaj. You can add her last start seventh in The Invitation over 1400m at Randwick to her luckless list after being blocked for a clear crack from the 300m. This is her chance and she'll love any give in the track.

RACE 10 (7) BLESK: Has come back in career best form with two excellent performances on the Kensington track at Randwick, going under by a lip first-up over 1250m then hitting the line hard for a strong 1300m win last time on October 20 under 59kg. Has a lot more to offer with a 2kg drop in weight and the step up to 1400m on this bigger circuit in his favour.

TRIAL POINTERS

ROSEHILL October 22: The two 2YO heats were competitive but the times were average. MOUNT BRILLIANT, by Redoute's Choice, won the colts heat narrowly (54.78; 34.88).

HAWKESBURY October 18: In the open heats over 800m Godolphin's DESTINATION (47.51; 32.82) did all that was required to post a smart win.

WARWICK FARM October 15: Unraced Capitalist filly MISS CAN DO impressed winning her heat in fast time (43.25; 33.77). This was her best effort in three trials and she looks ready to go to the races.

WYONG August 2: The honours in the 845m heats went to the promising BRING GLORY (49.08; 32.94) from the Brett Partelle stable. He's won three of his first five starts and is certain to build on that record.
