ROSEHILL July 16

Inside Grass; Heavy 8

14 Heats – 10 x 900m (3 Open; 6 2YO; 1 Maiden); 4 x 1030m (2 Open; 1 2YO; 1 Maiden)

A hint of early spring with a couple of Group stars getting an early tune up.

Triple G1 winner KOLDING stepped out in a 900m open heat but it was purely an exercise gallop out the back in the trial won easily by the exciting Written Tycoon mare WRITTEN BEAUTY. He has trialled like this at the start of his preps in the past – expect him to be more focused when he he trials again before resuming.

MONTEFIORE was also given an easy time in her heat over 1030m in her first appearance since the Oaks in April. She started to put in nicely through the line in the heat won by BIGBOYROY and looks to have furnished nicely with her spell.

WRITTEN BEAUTY is a top class mare. She took control of her heat after 200m from the normally free running FROSTY ROCKS and did it well within herself to score by a soft 3.7 lengths in the fastest of the 10 900m heats, being the only winner to go under 55 seconds and running a slick last 600m in the heavy conditions (54.74; 34.78). It was a trial that says she will be adding to her impressive record next season.

To be fair there was no urgency among those behind her with FROSTY ROCKS eased down late to hold second while SAMBRO and SUPERNOVA took the eye with the way they surged through the line.

It was a day out for progeny by champion stallion Written Tycoon as he sired four heat winners – WRITTEN BEAUTY and the 2YO trio UNWRITTEN, MISS GLENN and TYCOON HALLIE.

UNWRITTEN recorded the fastest 1030m heat win (63.60; 35.84) and MISS GLENN was equal quickest in the 6 2YO heats over 900m (55.09; 35.34).

This was the best result by UNWRITTEN in four trials since his only race in the Breeders Plate at the start of the season while the unraced MISS GLENN has come on nicely from a placing in her first trial at Gosford on July 5.

The unraced Press Statement filly RIVA DEL SOL equalled Miss Glenn's time with a tough win in her 900m heat after covering extra ground while the boom Snitzel colt REMARQUE was too classy for his rivals, working easily for a soft win in slow time (55.83; 35.50).

Other impressive 2YO heat wins were recorded by the unraced I Am Invincible colt OMNI MAN and WAY TO THE STARS, A Reward For Effort colt having his first trial.co.

OMNI MAN showed all the right traits to quickly accelerate past the leader at the 350m in his 900m heat and stretch out for an impressive 5.5 lengths win (55.29; 35.60) that says he is ready to go the races. WAY TO THE STARS should also come on from his sharp 900m heat win (55.27; 35.07) where he showed good natural pace.

The heats over 900m contained a number of nice trials from horses sent out with no intention to win. In the open heats I liked the efforts of TONY BE, LIBERTY SUN and KINGSHEIR while youngsters worth keeping an eye on when they get to the races included SIRIUS GIRL, SWIFT WITNESS, INVENCIBLE, BRUCKNER, ABLE WILLIE, COASTWATCH and JAL LEI.
