WARWICK FARM July 23

Course Proper; Soft 6 – 8 Heats – 2 x 1200m (2 Open); 1 x 900m (Group/Listed); 5 x 800m (2 2YO; 3 Open)

Polytrack/Synthetic – 6 Heats (2 x 1175m (1 Maiden; 1 Open); 4 x 740m (1 Open; 3 2YO)

An interesting session on a number of fronts.

Firstly none of Sydney's leading premiership jockeys took part due to COVID lockdown restrictions.

Koby Jennings and Keagan Latham were the most recognisable on the current riding list with trainers using a mix of Warwick Farm-based apprentices, track riders and a couple of "retired" veterans.

The trials results were listed as either open or 2YO heats (lazy office work?) but closer inspection made it easy to identify several heats restricted to age groups or maidens.

The session featured one black type trial over`900m on the course proper won by the good mare FASIKA (53.81; 33.48). It was a positive improvement on her recent race form as she tracked wide all the way under her rider Michelle Read and was never off the bit to hold an advantage over the ATC Derby winner QUICK THINKER.

The other standouts among the turf trial winners were classy G2 winner EVERY ROSE, STOLEN JADE and the 2YO filly HI HI HI.

EVERY ROSE (Mark Newnham): The flashy chestnut filly sat behind the leaders before her rider Zac Wadick peeled out three wide at the 500m and from there she always had them covered, striding clear in her 800m heat for a soft 2.7 lengths win that points to her being in the right form to sprint well in her early races next season.

HI HI HI (Gary Portelli): Smart 2YO filly won on debut in January but didn't progress in two subsequent starts. Resumed here with blinkers on and really responded with a sharp win in the fastest of the five heats over 800m on the turf (46.86; 33.26). Impressed by the way she left the runner-up almost five lengths in arrears with panels to the others.

STOLEN JADE (Clarry Conners): Talented mare made a one horse affair of her 800m heat under veteran rider Brian Wood. At the finish she had stretched her advantage to more than 10 lengths with no pressure applied but still put the time on the board (47.13) with her last 600m (33.17) that fastest of the session.

The polytrack heats saw the maiden filly MIA ZOI win her 1175m heat for 2 and 3YOs by 13.5 lengths (68.55; 34.95). Take it on face value but she's now won two recent synthetic trials – maybe they should aim for a race on the Victorian all weather tracks?

Good class winner ACADEMY won the other 1175m heat by 10 lengths in slower time (69.66; 34.40).

The quickest 740m heat on the polytrack was won in good style by the unraced 2YO colt ROGUE ALGORITHM (43.41; 33.29). The form could stand up as he won by good margin (3.8 lengths) from the Caulfield placegetter TABORCA.
