WYONG August 2

Course Proper; Soft 5

18 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 8 x 1000m (4 Open; 4 Maiden); 9 x 845m (3 Open; 6 Maiden)

Local trainer Kim Waugh is in a good place heading into the spring after winning seven heats on her home track.

Her standout winner was the talented mare GREAT NEWS, already the winner of five races and never out of a place in his 10 starts.

She is set to win a good race this campaign after turning his 1000m heat into a one horse affair, pulling her way to a big lead before the turn and cruising home by almost six lengths in the fastest heat of the morning (58.59; 33.74). They don't trial much better!

Waugh won another five 1000m trials with ERNO (59.55; 34.27) and CONRAD (60.47; 34.39) winning open heats and promising stablemates DON'T RECALL (59.13; 34.27), AZTEC (59.43; 35.08) and VILA TINTO (59.83; 35.20) showing they are ready to perform with impressive maiden heat wins.

Godolphin sent a small team to the trials with DESTINATION giving notice that he is ready to run to his best with a soft win his 845m heat (50.45; 33.66).

The honours in the 845m heats went to the promising BRING GLORY (49.08; 32.94) from the Brett Partelle stable. He's won three of his first five starts and is certain to build on that record.

Stablemate ISALUTE posted the second quickest 845m heat win (49.84; 33.26) while other good winners in the short trials included HUZZAH (50.35; 33.80), ANTARCTIC PRIDE (50.08; 33.61) and BEPPE (50.41; 33.77).

ROSEHILL July 30

Course Proper/Inside Grass – Good 4

15 Heats – Course Proper 1 x 900m (Group/Listed)

Inside Grass – 3 x 1030m (1 Open; 2 2 & 3YO); 11 x 900m (4 Open; 7 2YO)

Another COVID affected session with restrictions preventing recognised jockeys from taking part.

They were replaced by eligible local track riders and apprentices and while they did the job many heats were no more than working gallops.

The black type heat over 900m on the course proper was a leisurely affair (56.12; 39) with none of the seven runners put under pressure.

The classy youngster HOME AFFAIRS led from start to finish but the pedestrian speed saw the Melbourne Cup runner DASHING WILLOUGHBY keep pace and finish an easy second ahead of the Magic Millions winner SHAQUERO.

The soft trials of the last three over the line MASTER OF WINE, ANGEL OF TRUTH and LOVE TAP (missed the start by eight lengths but was still able to join them over the last 400m under an easy ride) were all you could expect from a trio set for big spring campaigns in distance events.

There was nothing flash about the times recorded by the winners of the four open trials over 900m but ARCHEDEMUS showed his class to circle the field from last and work well within himself over the last 400m to win his heat in slow time (55.24; 34.,25) after circling the field from last.

The eye catchers in the 900m heats were the big spring prospects MOUNT POPA and ROCK. They looked in first class order enjoying easy exercise in their heats.

The were some keener 2YO trials with pacy Queensland youngster MAOTAI recording a sharp win by more than five lengths in the quickest of the 11 heats over 900m (54.20; 33.72), an effort that suggests he will measure up to Sydney standard.

The boom colt REMARQUE also recorded fast time (54.27; 34.16) to run down his stablemate FIRE in his 900m heat. He was three lengths off the leader at the 150m but showed his class when given a rev up to quickly make up the leeway.

Other youngsters responsible for smart 900m heat wins included the fillies BAHAMA (54.91; 35.03) and DALCHINI (54.33; 34.55) while the class act HILAL did all that was required to win his heat in slow time (55.78; 35.06). MALLORY was another quality youngster from last season to trial nicely in the heat won by DALCHINI.

The unraced Capitalist 3YO COODARDY made an impression in his first trial by winning the quickest of the three 1030m heats (63.23; 35.69).
