WARWICK FARM October 15

Polytrack; Synthetic

12 Heats – 2 x 1175 (1 Open; 1 Maiden); 10 x 740m (2 2YO; 6 Open; 2 Maiden)

Weather conditions forced these trials scheduled for the Course Proper and A Grass to be transferred to the Polytrack.

A couple of smart winners in the two 2YO heats. The unraced BELRIAH (Gary Portelli) looked sharp sprinting to the line in the quickest of the two 740m heats (43.79; 33.56) while the Godolophin youngster CONTEMPORARY, placed at Flemington in September, had his rivals covered for a narrow win in the slower heat (44.34; 34.;02).

MONTE DITTO won a strong open heat over 740m (43.45; 33.37) where a number of runners behind him took the eye, not the least being AIR TO AIR and STARSTRUCK BARBIE. CRIADERAS was last over the line but you need to watch the replay to gain an appreciation for the work he put in over the last 200m.

The Chris Waller-trained LINA'S HERO was dominant in his 740m heat. The time was slow (44.67; 34.20) but he was working easily within himself from the jump and looks in a good a place heading into a new preparation. Former Victorian PENSO A LEI, now with Joe Pride, had an easy time back in the pack and I will be watching his progress with interest.

Joe Pride has also picked up the lightly raced KING KAPA, a 2YO winner last season, from Queensland and he looks a 3YO to follow through the classes after a stylish win in his 740m heat (43.94; 33.60)

Unraced Capitalist filly MISS CAN DO from the Matt Dunn yard impressed winning her heat in fast time (43.25; 33.77). This was her best effort in three trials and she looks ready to go to the races. Another unraced maiden NORMAN, a 4YO from the Chris Waller stable, is a headstrong type who was on one rein for much of his trial but still enough on them to score in good style (44.01; 33.60).

It was a big morning for Chris Waller with 35 of the 63 runners in the eight heats coming from his stable.

Waller won three 900m heats with SELBUROSE (55.23; 35.69); LOVELIER (55.69; 35.79 and ZARASTRO (55.51; 35.26).

SELBUROSE (fastest 900m heat win) and ZARASTRO were impressive and go into the blackbook along with a number of their stablemates who took the eye with their strong work.
