ROSEHILL October 22

Inside Grass; Good 4

14 Heats – 4 x 1030m (2 Open; 2 C1/Maiden); 10 x 900m (2 2YO; 3 Open; 5 Maiden)

A trio of impressive maiden heat winners from the Hawkes stable took centre stage. A sessions that should yield some nice winners coming through the lower classes.

MAROONIYAH (Hawkes Racing): This stylish Sebring filly has come on nicely from her two starts late last season. Sat outside the lead in her 900m heat before extending easily off the turn to put a big space on her rivals and coast over the last 200m under a stone cold ride from Tommy Berry. No doubt she could have posted a quicker time (53.90; 34.03).

PETULANT (Hawkes Racing): Unraced Starspangledbanner filly is now unbeaten in two trials, having been given plenty of time since her first trial win at Warwick Farm in May. She's a natural talent as she had no trouble leading her 900m heat under restraint and always had the measure of the chasers, easily extending over the last 200m with plenty in hand (53.64; 34.15).

SACRED FIELD (Hawkes Racing): This Deep Field 3YO was the star of the morning. Gelded since his first two starts last season and it could be the making of him as he was in another post code winning his 900m heat in easily the fastest of the maiden trials (52.74; 33.81). Took his time to reach the lead after 200m but was six lengths in front by the time they turned for home with Tommy Berry swinging to him. It was a procession down the running with Berry holding him down as he cruised to the line 6.5 lengths clear of his smart stablemate KIR ROYALE.

Other maidens to go into the blackbook from this session include BEIRUT MISS, CAPTIVARE, I LOVE LUCY and CINQUE TORRI.

The Hawkes-trained Group winner ROCK showed he had trained on well since his good Epsom Handicap performance, working to the line strongly to finish third in the fastest open heat over 1030m won by SUPER VINO (62.33; 35.02).

THE FACE is a known speedster and he had the handlebars down to win the fastest 900m heat of the morning by an unchallenged 3.5 lengths (52.55; 33.36).

The two 2YO heats were competitive but the times were average. MOUNT BRILLIANT, by Redoute's Choice, won the colts heat narrowly (54.78; 34.88) but the Exceed And Excel filly GINGER'S GAL responded to riding to post a quicker time in the other heat for the girls (54.39; 34.93).
