RANDWICK December 11

Best Bets

RACE 3 (9) BACCHANALIA: Came off solid first-up Cup Week fourth at Flemington over 1000m to outclass a BM72 field over 1200m on a heavy track at Canterbury, keeping intact his unbeaten record on wet tracks. Sure to be fitter again and well placed to test the talented favourite with a 3kg pull in the weights.

RACE 10 (5) BROOKSPIRE: This talented mare has had a frustrating time with minor setbacks and wide draws since her easy Kensington win on a heavy surface in August. Had her first outing for 11 weeks at Rosehill on November 27 when she was an excellent second over 1300m in this class after enduring a tough run three and four wide for the duration on a track that favoured runners close to the fence. Gets the right draw this time and should relish the extra trip.

RACE 8: RACE 8 (15) STEELY: The Ryan/Alexiou stable has a worthy Villiers favourite in ELLSBERG but this tough stablemate has the right profile for a race that favours improving lightweights as he is a heavy track winner up to 1800m on this course. His form since resuming rates well as he followed a close first-up second in the Goulburn Cup (1400m) with a strong on pace win over 1600m under 60kg in a BM88 at Kembla Grange on November 20. Gets a box seat run from his ideal draw and can go to a new peak with a 7kg drop to the limit weight.

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM December 2: LADY BANFF may not have lived up to her early promise but her strong win her 815m heat (47.61; 33.22) indicates she is back on track to do a lot better in her coming campaign. Sat three wide outside the speed but always travelled best and clearly went to the line better than the front running Frosty Rocks in the last 50 metres. GLINT OF SILVER (48.63; 34.95; 34.80) won the heat for the 2YO colts but in much slower time than the fillies heat.

RANDWICK November 23: Another impressive trial from unraced 4YO mare TWILIGHT AFFAIR. She's now won three trials since October 19 and was again emphatic leading easily and extending under no pressure for a soft win by 3.7 lengths in her 1050m heat (63.94; 36.10). RISE OF THE MASSES was pushed out to win his 2YO heat over 1050m (64.02; 35.61) by a good margin. Holds scope for improvement.

RANDWICK NOVEMBER 11: ENZINA, a racy filly by Menari, showed pace to win her heat (44.90; 32.92).

ROSEHILL November 8: Signs are strong that top stable has set quality mare SNAPDANCER for a first-up win after three Sydney trials. Improved on her Randwick trial on October 19 to control her 900m heat from the front and had plenty in the locker cruising to the line under a strong hold. Her time wasn't flash (55.84; 35.33) but you had to like the way she went about her work. Followed up finishing second in a Canterbury trial on November 30 when given an easy time.
