RANDWICK March 18

A Grass; Soft 7

14 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 9 x 1050m (4 Open; 2 2YO; 2 Maiden); 4 x 740m (1 Open; 2 2YO; 1 Maiden)

A winning trial by the top class mare LIBERTINI sets her up nicely for what may be her last racing campaign.

I AM SUPERMAN (Peter & Paul Snowden): A classy piece of work from this accomplished Group performer to win the strong 1200m heat in style (74.85; 34.89) from NIMALEE and HUETOR. Travelled easily outside the leader Taikomochi and extended smoothly when called to surge clear and score by more than two lengths with plenty in hand. The Snowden-trained import HUETOR is unbeaten in Australia and his solid third was a nice start to a prep that should take him to Brisbane where the Doomben Cup would be an ideal target.

LIBERTINI (Anthony Cummings): A fine return to action by this high class mare in her first trial since October. She tracked three and four wide under Hugh Bowman from the start but he always had her under a big grip and her class was evident as she strode clear under no pressure to cruise him by 1.5 lengths in the fastest of the four 740m heats (43.92; 33.24). As a rising 6YO by I Am Invincible she could be set for a big Brisbane winter before heading to stud.

PARIS D'OR (Peter & Paul Snowden): Exciting Pierro filly has shown plenty in her three race starts and this trial has her primed to make an impact in a suitable 2YO race over the carnival. Settled one out one back behind a leading pair in her 1050m heat (64.37; 35.29) before James McDonald eased her to the outside on straightening. He barely moved as she extended easily to sprint past the leaders and run to the line under no pressure to score by more than seven lengths. Impressive work!

Peter and Paul Snowden also won 1050m heats with their quality mares NAJMATY (63.76; 35.20) and SATIN RIBBONS (63.29; 35.43). The latter posted the fastest time of the nine heats over the trip, showing her usual speed to lead by a big space before throttling back over the last 100m to win the heat from her closing stablemate DEVIL'S THROAT.

In the 2YO heats over 1050m the Snowdens gave their new acquisition SHEEZA BELTER, winner of the WA Magic Millions at Pinjarra, her first Sydney trial and would have liked her closing second to the fast unraced filly ASTERIA (64.05; 35.19)

John O'Shea also had a number of nice triallers with most doing more than enough to earn a place in the blackbook. Noted efforts by O'Shea's runners included a 2YO heat win over 740m by SEDUCTIVE (44.59; 33.45), a slow maiden heat win over 1050m by STROMBUS (66.16; 35.67) and strong placings by FASHCHANEL, TAVI L'AMOUR and SHALAILED.

NOTED TRIALS

XX I Am Superman; Libertini; Paris D'Or

X Asteria; Blazing Miss; Californiachoicest; Fashchanel; Giancarlo; Hightail; Huetor; Najmaty; Owen County; Satin Ribbons; Seductive; Shalailed; Sheeza Belter; Strombus; Tavi L'Amour; The Frontman;

GOSFORD March 18

Course Proper; Soft 7

16 Heats – 8 x 800m (3 2YO; 3 Open; 2 Maiden); 1 x 1200m (Open); 7 x 1000m (4 Open; 3 Maiden)

Kim Waugh's team invariably perform well in trials and this session was typical with the Wyong trainer winning four heats plus several impressive placegetters.

FRENCH BONNET (Kim Waugh): A second impressive trial has this talented mare primed to resume in top form. The winner of four of her 10 starts coasted through a Wyong trial win on February 25 and was a sharp as a tack in this 1200m heat (70.51; 35.03), striding easily to a big lead in the first 600m and under no pressure to hold a five lengths advantage over her rivals in the run to the line.

Waugh also won 1000m open heats with TRINITY MISSILE going fastest in the seven heats over the trip (60.51; 35.52) and GARRISON leading throughout in his heat (61.13; 35.82). She also picked up a 2YO heat over 800m with the unraced SIDENAY (49.52; 35.53) and would have been delighted with the placings by the classy TRUMBULL and the unraced 2YO CURRENCY LAD in their heats.

Kristen Buchanan and Kris Lees won three heats each. The Lees-trained REDOUTE'S IMAGE was in good form winning his strong 1000m heat (60.92; 35.96) from stablemate GEM SONG with TRUMBULL the one taking the eye with his closing third.

ACQUITTED, an import in the Lees stable yet to race in Australia, confirmed the talent he displayed in a Newcastle trial in October 5 with a closing second in in his 800m heat won by KATGULLY RED (50.42; 35.69) and is one to keep tabs on as a Brisbane carnival prospect. SHOW ME LOVE is a well-bred maiden in the Lees team and looks to have come on nicely from her debut placing in November after winning her 1000m heat (62.58; 37.08).

Kristen Buchanan's Time Test gelding ACEEBER was ridden out to win the quickest of the three 2YO heats over 800m (49.51; 34.94) in a heat where I was impressed by the closing third of CURRENCY LAD. The fastest 800m heat time was posted by Damian Lane's promising OAKFIELD MAHOGANY (49.28; 34.98), a winner of his only start at Scone and also unbeaten in three trials.

The talented MORE SUNDAYS was under a race ban after winning his last start at Rosehill on January 29 as he was found to have bled from one nostril. The embargo was lifted after he produced one of the best trials of the session making up many lengths under a quiet ride to finish second in the heat won by GARRISON.

NOTED TRIALS

XX French Bonnet

X Acquitted; Best Side; Currency Lad; Lord Of The Hunter; More Sundays; Oakfield Mahogany; Redoute's Image; Safado; Show Me Your Love; Sidenay; Strawb; Trumbull.
