Woodside Park Stud-based stallion Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock) was handed his 19th stakes winner on Sunday as his Australian-bred son Sacred Magnate (4 g ex Ekali by Torrential) landed the Macau Derby (Listed, 1800m).

Last seen running fourth in the Macau Guineas (Listed, 1500m) last month, the gelding finished strongly to defeat Star Of Yiu Cheung (Casino Prince) by a short-head with another three-quarter of a length back to Hostwin Epanoui (More Than Ready) in third.

A $150,000 purchase by Malua Bloodstock at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Sacred Magnate is on five winners out of three time-winning Torrential (Gulch) mare Ekali, making him a half-brother to stakes-placed duo Windjammer (Bernardini) and Mediterranean (Smart Missile).

Ekali herself is out of Blue Diamond Preview (Gr 3, 1000m) winner Compulsion (Danehill) - who is also the dam of Listed winner Brayroan (Zabeel) and dams of Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner and now Newgate Farm-based sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon) and Group 3 scorer Red Excitement (Excites).

Foxwedge’s progeny is headed by three Group 1 winning fillies; Velope Volce, Foxplay and Urban Fox and he will stand the 2020 season for a fee of $11,000 (inc GST).
