Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa’s (Invincible Spirit) good start at stud gathered more momentum on Saturday as his well-bred daughter Hitoyogiri (2 f ex Federation, by Motivator) broke her maiden at the first time of asking over 1200 metres at Chukyo.

The two-year-old filly scampered clear in the closing stages to beat Abrumador (Lord Kanaloa) by two lengths, while Tagano March (Black Tide) was another nose further back in third.

Purchased by Toji Morita for 120,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, the two-year-old filly is out of Grade 3-placed Federation (Motivator), who is herself a half-sister to multiple Group 1-winner Attraction (Efisio).

Attraction herself is the dam of York Stakes (Gr 2, 1m2f) winner Elarqam (Frankel) and Group 3 winner Fountain Of Youth (Oasis Dream), while further back this is the same family as Titi Makfi (Makfi).

The Floors Stud will offer a Muhaarar (Oasis Dream) half-brother to Hitoyogiri at Book 2 of this year’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The colt will go through the ring as Lot 777.

Shalaa's first crop also includes the stakes-placed Saeiqa who ran third in the Coventry Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Royal Ascot. He is standing his fourth season in Australia for an unchanged fee of $33,000 (inc GST) at Arrowfield Stud this spring.

Shalaa, who stands at Haras de Bouquetot in the northern hemisphere, is currently sitting in second in the leading first season sires table in France by both earnings and winners. He sits in sixth place in the European table by winners, with that table headed by Mehmas (Acclamation) who has sired 29 winners to date in his first crop.
