First season sires Capitalist (Written Tycoon), Star Turn (Star Witness), Belardo (Lope De Vega) and Alpine Eagle (High Chaparral) all sired new winners on Sunday in a day where the two-year-old races were dominated for first season sires.

Capitalist took his total of winners to 21 overall and 20 in Australia when Silver Thorn (2 g ex The Grey Flash by Not A Single Doubt) won a Maiden Handicap (1200m) at Gosford on Sunday. His nearest rival on the leading first season sires table by winners is Star Turn (Star Witness) who notched up winner number 19 overall and 18 in Australia when Wilkshire (2 g ex Private Kiss by General Nediym) won a Maiden Plate (1021m) at Sapphire Coast. With only a week to go Capitalist looks likely to take the title by number of winners and sits second behind his barnmate Extreme Choice (Not A Single Doubt) in terms of earnings.

Other first season sires to sire new winners yesterday were Hanaui Farm’s Belardo who brought up winner number six in Australia and New Zealand, when Chitabe (2 f ex The Fire Inside by Sir Percy) won the 2YO Maiden Plate (1600m) at Gosford, while at Hobart Alpine Eagle, sired his second winner when Verbano (2 f ex Euston Road by Time Thief) won the 2YO Handicap (1100m).

In Europe on Sunday, shuttle sire Churchill (Galileo) sired his ninth winner when La Estrellita (2 f ex La Merced by Tiger Hill) won a maiden over seven furlongs at Munich. Churchill sired his first stakes winner earlier in the week when Ladies Church (2 f ex Riotisicm by Rio De La Plata) won the Marwell Stakes (Listed, 5f) at Naas on Wednesday.
