Graceful Girl gives Widden Stud's Nicconi his second Group One winner

Second for Nicconi
Widden Stud's Nicconi (Bianconi) recorded his second Group One winner on Saturday when the Winterbottom Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) was won by the Grant and Alana Williams-trained and Bob Peters homebred Graceful Girl (4 m ex Avenida Madero by Metal Storm). Having her first start in Group One company, the mare showed an impressive turn of foot and pulled clear to beat Stageman (Written Tycoon) by two and three quarter lengths. Nicconi's first Group One winner was multiple Group One winner Nature Strip and the stallion, who is standing his first season in Victoria this year, has sired 24 stakes winners in total.

 

68 for I Am Invincible
In winning the Merson Cooper Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Caulfield on debut, Ebhaar (2 f ex Maroon Bay by Exceed And Excel) became the 68th stakes winner for Yarraman Park's I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit). The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained and Emirates Park-owned filly beat Boldinho (Brazen Beau) by three quarters of a length. I Am Invincible has sired ten Group One winners so far and Ehaar has sired 35 juvenile stakes winners. He is currently sitting fifth in the leading sires table in Australia by earnings. 

 

36 for No Nay Never
The Ben and JD Hayes-trained Lady Of Honour (3 f ex Majesty by Fastnet Rock) became the 36th stakes winner for former Coolmore Australia shuttler No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) when she took out Saturday's Twilight Glow Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Caulfield. Lady Of Honour was a $175,000 buy by Justin Casse at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when offered by Coolmore Stud and she beat Decent Raine (Dissident) by a half length. No Nay Never is the sire of three Group One winners in Alcohol Free, Ten Sovereigns and Brooke while his Southern Hemisphere-bred crops have yielded three stakes winners in Need I Say More, Mana Nui and Lady Of Honour.

 

83 for Frankel
Previously stakes placed, Steinem (4 m ex Thai Noon by Dansili) became stakes winner number 83 for Frankel when the mare won the Summoned Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) at Caulfield on Saturday. The GB-bred mare, a $400,000 purchase by Ciaron Maher Racing from the draft of Esker Lodge at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, scored by the narrowest of margins from Quantum Mechanic (Deep Field). Frankel has sired eight stakes winners from 51 runners in Australia including the Group One winning trio Hungry Heart, Converge an Mirage Dancer. He is set to be crowned leading European sire by prize money this year with his progeny earnings almost €3 million clear of nearest rival Sea The Stars (Cape Cross).


121 for Savabeel
Waikato Stud's champion sire Savabeel (Zabeel) recorded his 121st stakes winner when Blue Army (3 c ex Keyarna Blue by O'Reilly) won the Sandown Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m). Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Blue Army beat Blazerro (Pierro) by a half length. Blue Army was bought by Wattle Bloodstock and HBL Racing for $200,000 at last year's Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

 

Six for Shamexpress
Zola Express (5 m ex Zolana by Golan) became the sixth stakes winner for Shamexpress (O'Reilly) when she won Saturday's Wanganui Cup Listed, 2040m) at Wanganui. Having her first start in stakes company, Zola Express beat Motivation (Mastercraftsman) by three quarters of a length with Bully Boy (Rock 'N' Pop) the same distance back in third. Shamexpress is based at Windsor Park Stud and his stakes winners are headed by the Group Three winning pair Coventina Bay and Embrace Me. His 2021 fee was set at NZ$6,000 (plus GST).

 

Nine for Reward For Effort
The late Reward For Effort (Exceed And Excel) notched up his ninth stakes winner when the Ryan Balfour-trained Outlaws Revenge (4 g ex Wings Of Alice by Testa Rossa) wont the City Of Marion Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Morphettville. Outlaws Revenge, a $150,000 buy by his trainer at the 2019 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Willow Grove Stud, scored by a nose from Rock The Ring – who is another son of Reward For Effort. Formerly based at Chatswood Stud, Reward For Effort relocated to Larneuk Stud this season and his death was announced earlier this week.

 

Five for Maschino
Marrochino (5 g ex Comesitbesideme by McFlirt) became the fifth stakes winner for the Alwyn Park Stud-based sire Maschino (Encosta De Lago) when he won Saturday's Japan Racing Association Trophy (Listed, 2100m) at Ascot. The gelding beat Bad Wolf (So You Think) by a half length.
