Victories of Daisies and Fangirl take the late Widden Stud-based stallion’s tally to 73
The late Widden Stud stallion Sebring (More Than Ready) sired a stakes double on Saturday and took his total number of stakes winners to 73.
Daisies (3 f ex Tigress Lily by Snitzel), who is trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, was the impressive winner of the Ethereal Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m), breaking her maiden at her fourth career start.
"She is a beautifully big staying filly. I think there is a bit of Zabeel in there and a mix of pedigree but she is a beautifully big, clean-winded staying filly and I think she'll go into the Oaks from here,” said Mick Price.
"We always wanted to go to 2000 metres which is why we didn't run her in the Thousand Guineas. I thought she's still learning, she's not the quickest out of the gates but I did ask Damien 'get a man up', put her nose in the 'v' and see if we can get a little bit tactical.
"I didn't want to be out the back running home with a promising frun all the time. I suppose into the Oaks from here."
Daisies was bought for $250,000 by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock when offered by Widden Stud at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. She is one of four winners and the only stakes winner out of the winning Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) mare TIgress Lily. Her third dam is the three-time Group One winner Tycoon Lil (Last Tycoon).
Shortly after at Randwick, the Chris Waller-trained and Ingham Racing-owned Fangirl (3 f ex Little Surfer Girl by Encosta de Lago) took out the Reginald Allen Quality (Listed, 1400m). Fangirl broke her maiden impressively at Goulburn last start on September 25 and Waller believes the filly will be better in the autumn.
"She has really started to emerge over the past few weeks and it was exciting to see her burst through the pack," Waller said.
"She got a little bit lost when she hit the front. I think the second horse deserves a little bit of merit as well.
"It will be interesting where these types of fillies end up in the autumn. They're the second-tier horses, as I would call them, but with six months on them you'll really see them emerge and hopefully they're running in the big races in the autumn."
Fangirl is one of four winners and the only stakes winner to date out of multiple Listed winner Little Surfer Girl (Encosta De Lago) who is herself a daughter of the three-time Group One winner Special Harmony (Spinning World).
LIttle Surfer Girl was covered by Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) last November after foaling a colt by Pariah (Redoute’s Choice).
Sebring’s final crop are now three-year-olds.
