Zoustar, Headwater, I Am Invincible, Per Incanto, Teofilo and Spill The Beans all add new stakes winners

22 for Zoustar
Widden Stud-based sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor) sired his 22nd stakes winner on Saturday when the Kris Lees-trained Zaniah (5 m ex Listen Here by Elusive Quality) defeated Tycoon Ace (Written Tycoon) by half a length in the Ascot Handicap (Listed, 1000m) at Eagle Farm. The mare is one of six winners out of Listed-winning Elusive Quality (Gone West) mare Listen Here, making her a half-sister to Group 1 winner and Darley Stud-based sire Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) and Group 2 winner Deep Field (Northern Meteor), who stands at Newgate Farm. After being initially passed in, Listen Here’s I Am Invincible filly was purchased by Vic Bates for $1,050,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. 

 

 

Bel Esprit Stakes to Sisstar
Later on in the afternoon, another daughter of Zoustar shone on the track, as the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Sisstar (4 m ex Solar Charged by Charge Forward) added a second stakes victory to her CV in the Bel Esprit Handicap (Listed, 1100m) at Caulfield. The four-year-old mare is one of 13 stakes winners for the Widden Stud-based sire in Australia this season and they are headed by Group 1 winner Zoutori. Zoustar had 24 lots sell for an aggregate of $9,375,000 at an average of $390,625 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale earlier this month. 

 

Three for Headwater
Vinery Stud-based sire Headwater (Exceed And Excel) was handed his third stakes winner courtesy of Jamaea’s (2 f ex Isibaeva by Johannesburg) victory in the Percy Sykes Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m). Last seen dead-heating for second in the Magic Night Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) on March 13, the two-year-old filly beat Crystal Bound (Not A Single Doubt) by a quarter of a length, while Joyous Legend (Snitzel) was the same distance away in third. The two-year-old, who was purchased by her trainer Robert Price for $130,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Cressfield Stud draft, joins Wisdom Of Water and Mileva as the stallion’s other stakes winners. 

 

 

Second stakes win for Apache Chase
Having landed the Vo Rogue Plate (Gr 3, 1400m) in January, Apache Chase (3 g Better Than Ready - Silken Whisper by Diesis) added a second stakes win to his record when he took out the Daybreak Lover Plate (Listed, 1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The son of Better Than Ready (More Than Ready) has now won four of his 11 starts, which has seen him accrue $471,875 in career prize-money. The three-year-old gelding is one of five stakes winners for the Lyndhurst Farm-based sire. 

 

64 for I Am Invincible
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Muntaseera (3 f ex Moosirra by Redoute's Choice) landed a much deserved stakes success when she took out the Redelva Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Morphettville on Saturday. Bred and raced by Sheikh M B K Al Maktoum, the filly had finished second at stakes level on four occasions, prior to her victory in the Listed race on Saturday and she finally got her head in front when she defeated Smokin’ Val (Valentia) by a quarter of a length. I Am Invincible finished last week’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as the leading sire by aggregate after 44 of his yearlings sold for a gross of $27,085,000 at an average of $615,568 and this included nine yearlings selling for $1 million or more. 

 

 

19 Per Incanto
Little Avondale stallion Per Incanto (Street Cry) sired his 19th stakes winner on Saturday when his daughter Roch 'n' Horse (4 m ex Rochfort by Cecconi) took out the Power Turf Sprint (Listed, 1200m) at Hastings. The four-year-old mare was narrowly denied her first win at stakes level when she finished second in the Lightning Handicap (Listed, 1200m) on March 20, but was last seen finishing a disappointing 11th in the Flying Stakes (Listed, 1400m) and she got back to winning ways with a fine three-quarter length victory over Mr Universe (Smart Missile). 

 

96 for Teofilo
Former Darley shuttler Teofilo (Galileo) sired his 96th stakes winner on Saturday when his daughter Tyche Goddess (3 f ex Cornelia Marie by Reset) defeated Ecumenical (Zebedee) by neck in the Auraria Stakes (Gr 3, 1800m) at Morphettville. Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, the three-year-old filly is out of the Listed-winning Reset (Zabeel) mare Cornelia Marie and she is herself a half-sister to fellow stakes winner Chitabe (Perugino). Tyche Goddess becomes the 15th Australian stakes winner for Teofilo and they are headed by seven Group 1 winners. The son of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) is standing at Kildangan Stud in Ireland for a fee of €30,000.

 

Fasika returns to winning ways in Sapphire Stakes
The Joe Pride-trained Fasika (5 m So You Think - Jarada by Redoute's Choice) snapped a 13 month losing run when she returned to winning ways in the Sapphire Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on Saturday - the headline act of six winners for Coolmore Stud-based sire So You Think (High Chaparral). The five-year-old mare had not been successful since her win in the Wenona Girl Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) in March 2020 and her latest win took her record to five victories from 13 starts, for prize-money earnings of $731,770. Fasika is one of 11 stakes winners in Australia for So You Think this season, headed by Group 1 winner Think It Over and he is sitting fourth in Australia’s general sires table by earnings. 

 

Second stakes win for Big Mike
Having taken out the Pakenham Cup (Listed, 2500m) in December 2018, Big Mike (8 g Don Eduardo - Landvetter by Felix The Cat) returned to something like his best when he landed the Hawke's Bay Cup (Listed, 2200m) on Saturday. Big Mike is one of 12 stakes winners for Don Eduardo (Zabeel) and they are headed by Group 1 winner Booming. 

 

Two for Spill The Beans
The late Aquis Farm-based sire Spill The Beans (Snitzel) sired his second stakes winner when the Ellsberg (3 c ex Love Of Liberty by General Nediym) landed the South Pacific Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Randwick. The three-year-old colt was purchased for $50,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale from the Kitchwin Hills draft, before being purchased by Ryan for $280,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Segenhoe Stud draft the following year. Ellsberg joins Tellall as the son of Snitzel’s (Redoute’s Choice) other stakes winner. Spill The Beans died in 2019. 

 

Wild Ruler lands Arrowfield
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Wild Ruler (3 c Snitzel - Gypsy Robin by Daaher) added a second Group 2 to his record when he landed the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick on Saturday. The son of Snitzel’s (Redoute’s Choice) first victory at Group 2 level when he won the Roman Consul Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) in October and he has now won five of his ten career starts, which has seen him earn $1,522,725 in career prize-money. Wild Ruler is one of 108 stakes winners for Arrowfield Stud-based sire Snitzel. 

 

Fifth stakes win for Kemalpasa
Kemalpasa (5 g ex Magnus - Yarra Bank by Bianconi) chalked up a fifth stakes win on Saturday when he landed the RN Irwin Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at Morphettville on Saturday. Last seen running third in the Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) and he returned to winning ways when beating Humma Humma (Denman) by two lengths. The five-year-old gelding is one of 22 stakes winners for Sun Stud-based sire Magnus (Flying Spur) and they are headed by four Group 1 winners. 

 

Sixth winner for Sooboog
Kitchwin Hills-based first-season sire Sooboog (Snitzel) was provided with his sixth first-crop winner on Saturday, as the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Mihocek (2 g ex Carmelita Mo by Uncle Mo) broke his maiden over 1400 metres at Kembla Grange at the third attempt. Purchased by his trainer for $80,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Kitchwin Hills draft, Mihocek joins stakes-placed Birdsville, Jessica Rabbit, Boudica's Gift, Emma Rosa and Moonlit Rose as the stallion’s other winners. 

 

83 for King Kamehameha
Late Shadai Stallion Station-based sire King Kamehameha (Kingmambo) was handed his 83 stakes winner on Saturday when his son Ho O Amazon (3 c ex Hikaru Amaranthus by Agnes Tachyon) took out the Arlington Cup (Gr 3, 1600m) at Hanshin. The colt was making his three-year-old seasonal debut, having signed off his two-year-old season with a ninth place finish in the Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) on December 20. King Kamehameha’s stakes winners are headed by 13 Group 1 winners. 

 

Second Gladness Stakes for Lancaster House
The Aidan O’Brien-trained Lancaster House (5 h Galileo - Quiet Oasis by Oasis Dream) landed the Gladness Stakes (Gr 3, 7f) at the Curragh on Saturday, winning the race for the second consecutive year. The five-year-old son of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) is out of Grade 2 winner Quiet Oasis (Oasis Dream), who is herself a sister to Group 3 winner Young Pretender. The entire’s third dam Park Heiress (Sadler’s Wells) is also the grandam of this season’s Newmarket Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Zoutori (Zoustar) and his Group 3-winning sister Kiku. 

 

Fourth stakes win for Broome
Having taken out the Devoy Stakes (Listed, 1m2f) on his seasonal debut on March 28, the Aidan O’Brien-trained Broome (5 h Australia - Sweepstake by Acclamation) added a fourth stakes win to his record with a fine victory in the Alleged Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) at the Curragh on Saturday. The five-year-old son of Coolmore Stud-based Australia (Galileo) landed the Ballysax Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) and Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) in 2019. Broome is one of 17 stakes winners for Australia and they are headed by elite level-winning pair Galileo Chrome and Order Of Australia.
