Dubawi, Mehmas, Reliable Man and Lope De Vega add new stakes winners on Sunday

207 for Dubawi
Darley’s Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) added yet another stakes winner to his tally when Valloria (3 f ex Celebre Vadala by Peintre Celebre) won the Prix Volterra (Listed, 1600m) at Longchamp on Sunday. 

The filly became the 207th stakes winner for her sire when she scored a three quarter length victory over evens favourite Dolia (Invincible Spirit), a homebred for HH The Aga Khan, while Complication (No Nay Never) was third, another length and a half back. 

Bred and raced by Haras de Saint Pair, Valloria is one of six winners out of Listed winner Celebre Vadala (Peintre Celebre) making her a half-sister to Group 1 winner and sire Vadamos (Monsun) as well as dual Listed winner Volfango (Dutch Art). This is also the family of dual Group 1 winner Valixir (Trempolino) and fellow Group 1 winner Vadawin (Unfuwain) who produced seven winners headed by Vadamar (Dalakhani). 

 

11 for Mehmas
Last year’s European champion first season sire Mehmas (Acclamation), who notched up 55 winners in his first crop, was represented by his 11th stakes winner on Sunday when the Roger Varian-trained Line Of Departure (3 c ex Entreat by Pivotal) took out the Cathedral Stakes (Listed, 6f) at Salisbury. Settled behind the leaders by David Egan, Line Of Departure ran on well in the closing stages to beat favourite Khaadem (Dark Angel) by two and a quarter lengths. 

Based at Tally-Ho Stud in Ireland where he stood for a fee of €25,000 this year, Mehmas currently sits second to Rosemont Stud shuttler Starspangledbanner (Choisir) in the leading two-year-old sires table by earnings in Great Britain and Ireland and leads the table by winners. 

 

First Group winner for Tosen Ra
Zadar (5 h ex See The Sea by Lemon Drop Kid) became the first Group winner for Tosen Ra (Deep Impact) when he won Sunday’s Epsom Cup (Gr 3, 1800m) at Tokyo. Owned by U Carrot Farm and trained by Masahiro Otake, the entire scored by a neck from Satono Flag (Deep Impact). There was another length and a quarter back to Falconia (Deep Impact) in third. Tosen Ra has sired one other stakes winner in the Listed winning filly I Love Tailor and he stands at the Breeders Stallion Station in Hokkaido. 

 

16 for Reliable Man 
Westbury Stud shuttler Reliable Man (Dalakhani) sired his 16th stakes winner on Sunday when the Group 1 placed mare Naida (5 m ex Nacella by Banyumanik) recorded her first stakes victory in the Steher Cup (Listed, 3000m) at Cologne. The mare beat Ida Alata (Adlerflug) and Memphis (Jukebox Jury) who finished second and third respectively. Naida is out of the stakes placed mare Nacella (Banyumanik), making her a half-sister to stakes winner Nacida (Wiener Walzer) and the stakes placegetter Nacar (Tertullian). Reliable Man will stand for an increased fee of NZ$17,500 (+GST) this spring. His progeny include three Group 1 winners in Miami Bound, Inspirational Girl and Miss Sentimental. 

 

20 for Declaration Of War
At Bro Park in Sweden on Sunday, Irish-bred Match Maker (6 g ex I’m In Love by Zafonic) won the Stockholms Stora Pris (Gr 3, 1800m) and in doing so became the 20th Group winner for Declaration Of War (War Front). Fellow Irish-bred Jazz Explosion (Red Jazz) was beaten a length for second. Match Maker is one of three winners and two stakes winners out of I’m In Love (Zafonic) who is now in Australia. The daughter of Zafonic (Gone West) was covered by Magna Grecia (Invincible Spirit) last September having produced a filly by Hellbent (I Am Invincible) while her son Treporti (I Am Invincible) sold to Bruce Perry Bloodstock for $600,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and has gone on to place this season for trainer Danny O’Brien and connections including Lib Petagna, Rosemont Stud and Mark and Gary Chittick. 

Declaration Of War, who has sired 34 stakes winners overall, has produced seven Group / Grade 1 winners including Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) hero Vow And Declare. Declaration Of War shuttled to Australia for just two seasons in 2014 and 2015 and covered a total of 213 mares. He was sold to stand in Japan in 2019 at JBBA Shizunai Stallion Station.
