Ten for I Am Invincible

A $875,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase by Tom Magnier from the draft of his breeder Torryburn Stud, Home Affairs, last seen finishing ninth in the Everest (1200m), scored an impressive three length victory over Bruckner (Snitzel). Home Affairs is one of 66 stakes winners by I Am Invincible with Brazen Beau, Loving Gaby, Viddoara, I Am A Star, Invincibella, Media Sensation, Voodoo Lad, Oohood and Hellbent the sire’s other Group One winners.

Two for Maurice
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Hitotsu (3 c ex Love Is Fickle by Redoute’s Choice) provided former Arrowfield shuttler Maurice (Screen Hero) with his second Group One winner - first bred in Australia - when winning Saturday's Victoria Derby (Gr 1, 2500m). Starting the 3-1 favourite, Hitotsu, a $100,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Wendy Kelly Racing from the draft of Arrowfield Stud, scored a dominant length and three quarter victory over Alegron (Teofilo), with Teewaters (Dundeel) another two lengths back in third. Hitotsu also becomes the second Australian-bred stakes winner for Maurice, who has sired four further stakes winners to date, with Pixie Knight his other Group One winner. He shuttled to Australia for three seasons in 2017, 2018 and 2019, covering a total of 279 mares and producing 206 live foals.
It's all Hitotsu in the Penfolds Victoria Derby.

Seven for Sebring
The late Widden Stud-based Sebring (More Than Ready) sired a Flemington stakes double on Saturday, with Superstorm (5 g ex Stormy Nova by Metal Storm) becoming Group One winner number seven for the sire. Group One placed previously, the Danny O’Brien-trained gelding beat Icebath (Sacred Falls) by a nose in the Cantala Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m), while earlier on the card, Fangirl (3 f ex Little Surfer Girl by Encosta De Lago) had taken out the Carbine Club Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m). Sebring, who has sired a total of 73 stakes winners, died in February 2019 having retired to stud in 2009.

Two for Kermadec
Stepping into stakes class for the first time, the James Cummings-trained Willowy (3 f ex Dextrous by Quest For Fame) won the Wakeful Stakes (Gr 2, 2000m) at Flemington and in doing so became the second stakes winner for Kermadec (Teofilo). Under Jye McNeil, Willowy recorded her second career victory when she beat Daisies (Sebring) by a half length.
Kermadec’s 2021 fee at Darley’s Northwood Park is set at $11,000 (inc GST) after covering a book of 67 mares last year at a fee of $13,750 (inc GST). His other stakes winner is the triple Group One winner Montefilia.
