The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained juvenile colt Farnan impressed on debut at Canberra on Sunday. A $550,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Aquis Farm from the draft of Vinery Stud, the son of Not A Single Doubt took out the John McGrath Auto Group Handicap run over 1000 metres in a time of 0:57.65. Charming Pat, a son of Charm Spirit, was a well beaten second, finishing almost five lengths from the winner with Vancouver filly Stagecoach Mary third. Farnan is the sixth foal out of the Group 3-winning Street Cry mare Tallow who has also produced the stakes-winner Sandbar. Owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds, Tallow missed to Snitzel in 2017 and 2018.
