Tuesday morning’s set of 20 trials at Randwick saw 4 juvenile heats and included the return of last month’s Gimcrack Stakes (Group 3) winner Every Rose in Heat 8. Ridden by Josh Parr, who rode the Mark Newnham-trained filly to victory in the Gimcrack Stakes, Every Rose won Heat 8 over 735 in a time of 44.78.
First out she settled down in the lead racing one off the rails. Maintaining her position into the straight she quickened easily and then streaked away in the closing stages with the James Cummings-trained filly Azraq 5 lengths back in second.
Every Rose is raced by an all ladies Darby Racing syndicate and she will now head to Wyong for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (Restricted Listed) on 12 December.
The daughter of Choisir out of Show A Heart mare Couredge was purchased by Derby Racing and De Burgh Equine for $160,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January from the draft of Tyreel Stud.
The first of the juvenile trials, Heat 2 over 1038 metres, was won by the John Sargent-trained Brash Sammy, a son of Statue Of Liberty, with Mark Newnham’s Codebreaker six lengths back in second.
Heat 9, another for fillies over 735 metres, was taken out by the Chris Waller-trained Tight Ropes who beat Loose Buttons by three lengths in a time of 45.22. Ridden by James McDonald, Tight Ropes jumped well and went to the lead.
On straightening she maintained her position and then pulled away from Loose Buttons in the closing stages when asked by McDonald. By Brazen Beau and out of Prayer, Tight Ropes was having her first trial and is raced by Hermitage who bought her for $60,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Holbrook Thoroughbreds.
Heat 10 for colts and geldings over 735 metres was won by John Sargent’s Encountabull in a time of 44.15 with the trainer also responsible for the winner of the following heat in Easy Campese.
Encountabull settled down in fourth with the field led by Elusive Fox who showed good speed from the gate. Sitting behind the eventual second Elusive Fox, he quickened when asked for in the straight and edged clear close home.
The time was the quickest of the 2-year-old heats yesterday. Encountabull is a son of Kingstar Farm’s Bull Point and he is out of the Encosta De Lago mare Countless Delago.
He was a $80,000 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale purchase by his trainer and DGR Thoroughbred Services from his breeder Kingstar Farm. He had not been seen since finishing a half-length fourth on debut in the Inglis Banner at Moonee Valley last month.
Easy Campese meanwhile was having his first trial. The son of Sidestep scored a 1 and a half length victory in a time of 44.35 over the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Equation.
