Coolmore Australia's Vancouver (Medaglia d'Oro) sired his first winner on Wednesday when his juvenile daughter Vangelic won on debut over 1100 metres at Randwick. A $400,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Racing from the draft of Segenhoe Stud, Vangelic scored by a length and a half over the James Cummings-trained Parakeet (Kermadec).

Stable representative Neil Paine said it was fitting that the stable trained the first winner by their Golden Slipper winner Vancouver.

"Our horses always improve stacks from their trials and that showed today. Nash rode her in the trial and thought she had a chance today," Paine said.

"Gai and Adrian will be over the moon because that is Vancouver's first winner and the owners in this horse actually owned Vancouver, so they are over the moon.

"When you look at her in the yard she looks so babyish compared to the other fillies who looked big and strong, so for her to come out and win today is quite remarkable.

"It will be up to Gai and Adrain what she does from here, but they will do the right thing no matter what happens."

Vangelic is the third foal out of the stakes-placed mare Angel Bee (Pins), a half-sister to the stakes-placegetters O'Angel (Cape Blanco) and Turnstiles (Anabaa), being out of the Group 3-winning mare Zabeels Angel (Zabeel). Vancouver has 21 lots catalogued for next week's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and 14 lots entered for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Vangelic's half-brother, a colt by Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock), is catalogued as Lot 26 at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Segenhoe Stud.
