I Am Immortal captured the Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) (Listed, 1000m) at Caulfield on debut and in the process defeated ATC Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) winner and Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) runner-up, Microphone (Exceed And Excel), who added to his three-year-old record when taking out the Autumn Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) on Saturday.

Raced by Dream Thoroughbreds and trained by Anthony Freedman, I Am Immortal went on to in the Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) (Gr 3, 1100m) on his second start.

The son of Yarraman Park's gun sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) made his return to the track this preparation in the the WJ Adams Stakes (Listed, 1000m), finishing second, in wet conditions, behind mudlark Jungle Edge (Dubawi).

Swettenham Stud's Adam Sangster said he was delighted to secure the son of I Am Invincible at the Victorian farm. "We're thrilled to be standing such a quality son of I Am Invincible," Sangster said. "I Am Immortal will be the perfect barn mate for Toronado who was Victoria's most popular stallion last spring, covering 197 mares, while Puissance de Lune (156 mares) and Akeed Mofeed (133) were busy with their biggest books too.

"The addition of such genuine precocity to the roster with I Am Immortal really does, if you'll excuse the pun, cover all breeding requirements. He complements our roster so well and really aligns to what our breeders are looking for."

Freedman, who will be aiming the colt at Group 1 races this autumn, said the colt was among the fastest two-year-olds he had ever trained.

"I Am Immortal was a very fast, precious two-year-old and easily one of the fastest horses that I have trained," Freedman said. "He's an imposing, attractive colt, very much in the mould of his sire, I Am Invincible, and races in a similar manner. I believe with all his attributes he is an exciting stallion prospect."

Meanwhile, Dream Thoroughbreds' David Azzopardi added: "We have been so fortunate to race such an athletic I Am Invincible colt, especially one out of Ad Valorem's Group 2 winner, Meliora. Talk about speed on speed. I remember Meliora leading them for home by a whopping margin in the Angus Armanasco before she ended up winning the race by nearly four lengths. Meliora is also a half sister to the dual stakes winning sprinter, Whypeeo."

"The WJ Adams was I Am Immortal's first tilt at Listed open age class and showed blistering speed, so we're really looking to the remainder of the autumn.

"The opportunity to stand I Am Immortal with one of Victoria's most successful farms in Swettenham Stud is fantastic and I believe he will be the ideal Super VOBIS stallion – sure to get early two-year-olds that train on at three and four."

The colt is out of Group 2-winning mare Meliora (Ad Valorem), making I Am Immortal a three-quarters brother to Listed winner Whypeeo.

I Am Immortal's service fee will be announced after Easter, while limited shares are also available as he enters his stud career.
