Coolmore Australia sire Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) notched up his fifth first crop winner on Friday when Dubai Star (2 f ex Jezzabba by Fastnet Rock) took out the TAB Venue Mode Maiden Handicap (1100m) at Canterbury.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly, who was having her third start, defeated the team Hawkes-trained colt I Am Swerving (I Am Invincible) by one and a quarter lengths with Jerle (Exceed And Excel) third.

Away well from the gates, Dubai Star went to the front and found the rail with Salateen (I Am Invincible) racing in second on her outside. She was asked to quicken on straightening and responded well to score a good victory under Tim Clark.

"That is what we wanted to see from her, come here do things right and give her a bit of confidence and hopefully she can get right on with it," said Bott.

"There was plenty of pressure early on. She fought them off and was strong late."

A $320,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase by her trainers from the draft of Segenhoe Stud, Dubai Star ran second in the Merson Cooper Stakes (Listed, 1000m) on debut last November and was then sixth at her second start in the Inglis Nursery (RL, 1000m) at Randwick in December.

Bred by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum who raced Pride Of Dubai, Dubai Star is the first foal out of the winning Fastnet Rock (Danehill) mare Jezzabba who is herself out of Manikato Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Piavonic (Scenic), making her a half-sister to Group 2 winning sire Von Costa De Hero (Encosta De Lago).

Jezzabba has a yearling filly by Pride Of Dubai and a weanling filly by Snitzel (Redoute's Choice). She was covered by Pride Of Dubai again last September.

Pride Of Dubai sits at the head of the leading first season sires table in Australia by both earnings and winners. He covered a book of 176 mares at Coolmore Australia last season, standing at a fee of $38,500 (inc GST). He has 20 lots catalogued for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale which begins in Melbourne on Sunday.

Pride Of Dubai's first crop winners are Listed winner Tanker, Sense Of Honour, Platinum Dubai and Maha and he has also sired the stakes placed filly Bella Nipotina.
