Waikato Stud-based sire Ocean Park (Thorn Park) was handed his seventh stakes winner when Star Of The Seas (5 g ex Stella Livia by Titus Livius) landed the Maurice McCarten Handicap (Gr 3, 1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Zoustyle (Zoustar), pinched what looked a winning break on the field but faltered in the straight and was found to have bled, incurring an automatic three-month ban from racing.

Star Of The Seas pounced and went to the line a length ahead of River Bird (Epaulette) with Spending To Win (Snitzel) another half head third.

“We picked this race out to give him the chance to show his sprint,” Chris Waller said.

“And we were probably spoilt when it started to rain.

“He’s been a good horse to us and hopefully he can pick off another race over the carnival.”

Star Of The Seas ran third in last year’s Epsom Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) and has now won seven of his 18 career starts and placed a further eight times. The five-year-old gelding is out of two-time winner Stella Livia (Titus Livius) making him a three-quarters brother to Listed winner and now Aquis stallion Spieth (Thorn Park).

Stella Livia herself is out of Sombrefee (Polish Precedent) making her a half-sister to German Group 1 winner Ransom O’War (Red Ransom). Sombrefee is a grandam of Listed winner Inverleigh (Excelebration).

Ocean Park’s stakes winners are headed by Group 1 winner Kolding.
