Provides Pivotal with his 31st Group 1 winner.
British raider Addeybb (5 g ex Bush Cat by Kingmambo) won the hearts of Australian racing fans on Saturday when he showed an incredible will to win in the Ranvet Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) becoming Cheveley Park Stud-based Pivotal's (Polar Falcon) 31st overall Group 1 winner and second in Australia.
As the field rounded the turn, the William Haggas-trained gelding only had Verry Elleegant (Zed) for company - with the mare looking the more comfortable of the two. But Tom Marquand got to work on the son of Pivotal and he responded in fine style to stave off the mare's advances to beat her by a half length.
"The way he gets them rolling, the other jockeys think he's got less horse than he does so you wonder if they just commit that bit early," said Harry Eustace who is in Australia overseeing Haggas' team.
"He knows our horses are going to run all the way to the line, they were pretty fit when they call.
"I am just delighted for Tom to ride his first Group 1, it's fantastic we managed to get it for him."
Visiting European jockey Tom Marquand - who was also enjoying this first Group 1 winner - added: "A Group 1 is all I have dreamt of since childhood.
"An international Group 1, even more so. And an international Group 1 on an English horse, even better."
The gelding was purchased by Shadwell for 200,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and has now won eight of his 16 starts which has seen him accumulate $1,467,218 in career prize-money.
Addeybb is out of Bush Cat (Kingmambo) making him a half-brother to Grade 3-placed Meer Kat (Red Ransom) as well as four other winners.
Bush Cat herself is out of German Listed winner Arbusha (Danzig), making her a half-sister to Listed winner Busha' (Mercer Mill) and Rip 'N' Run (Mercer Mill).
Further back this is the same family as Group 1 scorer Strategic Choice (Alleged) and Group 2 winner Nicholas (Danzig).
Addeybb joins last year's Ranvet winner Avilius, who finished third on Saturday, as the stallion's other Group 1 winner in Australia. Meanwhile, the gelding becomes the second elite level winner for the Pivotal / Kingmambo (Mr. Prospector) cross - with the other being dual Group 1 winner Regal Parade.
Addeybb's victory handed Haggas and Marquand a double on the day at Rosehill, with the pair having taken out the NE Manion Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) with Young Rascal (Intello) earlier on the card.
Pivotal's 2020 fee at Cheveley Park Stud in Newmarket is advertised as private.
