Vinery Stud's first season sire Press Statement (Hinchinbrook) sired his third winner on Saturday when Major Murphy (2 c ex Night War by General Nediym) won on debut.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained colt scored a three quarter length victory in a 1200 metre maiden at Wyong where he defeated Princess Betty (Smart Missile) by three quarters of a length.

The colt was bred by Vinery Stud and was bought for $130,000 by Maher at last year's Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, with Vinery Stud remaining in his ownership. Major Murphy is out of Group 2-winning General Nediym (Nediym) mare Night War who has now produced four winners from as many runners. Night War is a daughter of Samar (Secret Savings), making her a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Samaready (More Than Ready) who produced Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) winner Exhilarates (Snitzel).

Major Murphy's third dam is Nice Choice (Danewin), the dam of seven winners headed by three-time Group 1 winner Country Tyrone (Danewin).

Night War has a yearling colt by All Too Hard (Casino Prince) and a weanling filly by Star Turn (Star Witness). She was covered by Press Statement again last October.

Press Statement stood for a fee of $16,500 (inc GST) last year, covering a book of 161 mares.
