The Mike Moroney-trained Tofane (4 m ex Baggy Green by Galileo) ran down Pierata (Pierro) on the line to take the All Aged Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Randwick on Saturday and in doing so became the second Group 1 winner for her Waikato Stud-based sire Ocean Park (Thorn Park).

The Mike Moroney-trained mare, who was ridden by visiting New Zealand-based jockey Opie Bosson, scored by a nose from the Aquis Farm bound stallion Pierata, who was having the final start of his career, with that pair well clear of the third placed Fasika (So You Think) who was beaten by almost three lengths.

Moroney said that he would aim the mare at The Everest (1200m) in the Spring.

"We decided after her spring campaign that we would only target Group One races this autumn," Moroney said.

"I told her owners she would get beaten in a few but I know she will win one.

"Her form had been great. I thought she should have run second in the Newmarket then she ran really well for third in The Galaxy, beaten a nose and a nose.

"Her effort to then run fifth in the TJ Smith Stakes was super because she was luckless from a wide barrier

"This is a great result and we will put her away now and set her for The Everest in the spring."

Bred by Gordon Cunningham, Tofane is the only winner from three foals to race out of the winning Galileo (Sadler's Wells) mare Baggy Green who is a three quarter sister to Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Funstar (Adelaide) and a half-sister to fellow Group 1 winner Youngstar (High Chaparral) as well as the stakes-placed Eleven Seconds (Encosta De Lago).

Tofane's third dam is the five-time Group 1 winner User Friendly (Slip Anchor) who went on to produce eight winners including Irish Group 3 winner Downtown (Danehill). This is also the family of 2018 Prix Morny (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Pretty Pollyanna (Oasis Dream).

Baggy Green was covered again by Ocean Park last year having missed to So You Think (High Chaparral) the previous season. Her Reliable Man (Dalakhani) colt was bought for NZ$280,000 by John O'Shea Racing and Laurel Oak Bloodstock at this year's Karaka 2020 Book 1.

Ocean Park's first Group 1 winner was Epsom Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Kolding and Tofane is one of eight stakes winners by the son of the Waikato Stud-based stallion who has also produced Group 2 winner Oceanex and Group 3 winning pair Star Of The Seas and Out Of The Park. He had seven lots sell at Book 1 this year at an average of NZ$136,500 and a top price of NZ$450,000.

Meanwhile, Baggy Green's three-quarter sister Youngstar will be offered at the online Inglis Chairman's Sale on May 8. The mare will be offered as Lot 78.
