Group 3 winner McLaren (Exceed And Excel) will take up stud duties at Riverdene Stud in Wagga Wagga this season where he will stand for an introductory fee of $6,600 (inc GST).

The son of Exceed And Excel (Danehill) took out the Canonbury Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) on his first start and retired the winner of $122,575 in prize-money.

A $380,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by China Horse Club, Newgate and WinStar from the Baramul Stud draft in 2018, McLaren is out of four time-winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Serenada, making him a three-quarters brother to Group 3-placed Cao Cao (Fastnet Rock).

Serenada herself is a half-sister to Group 2 winners First Command (Commands) and Oneworld (Danehill Dancer) - who was also Group 1-placed.

The colt’s third dam is Listed winner Ride The Rapids (River Rough), who produced 2003 Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) winner River Dove (Hurricane Sky) - the dam of Group 2 winner and now Vinery Stud sire Headwater (Exceed And Excel).

Further back this is the family of New Zealand Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) Crown Prosecutor (Medaglia d’Oro), Group 3 winner Kulgrinda (Exceed And Excel) and Listed-winning trio River Delta (Al Maher), River Night (Night Of Thunder) and Cross Current (Keltrice).

McLaren will take up stud duties alongside Strade (Danehill) and Van Pensiero (Stratum), who both stand for a ‘fee on application’ basis.
