In response to the weak global economy because of the ramifications of coronavirus, Sun Stud have decided to slash their fees for 2020 and their roster will once again be headed by Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Fiorente (Monsun), who will stand for a fee of $17,600 (inc GST).

"Broodmare owners are facing unprecedented times and Sun Stud has acted accordingly in dropping fees across the board," Sun Stud's sales and nominations manager, Phil Marshall said.

"We've always regarded ourselves as the 'breeders' farm', heading up initiatives such as the 'no payment until live foal', which also remains in play for 2020. Sun Stud is a firm believer in the strength of the Victorian industry and just want to ensure breeders have every opportunity in these extraordinary times."

Fiorente stood for a career high fee of $27,500 (inc GST) in 2019, but will return to the fee he stood at for the first five seasons of his career in 2020. The stallion has sired 34 winners so far this season including stakes placegetter Power Scheme.

He will be joined by Magnus (Flying Spur) who will be offered to breeders for a fee of $15,400 (inc GST) having stood for $16,500 (inc GST) last season.

Young stallion Palentino (Teofilo) will have his first runners next season and he will stand the upcoming breeding season of $14,300 (inc GST) down from last year's fee of $17,600. The son of Teofilo (Galileo) had 23 first-crop yearlings sell for an aggregate of $1,431,000 at an average of $62,217.

Group 1 winner National Defense (Invincible Spirit) will shuttle to the Victorian Stud for the second year, where he will be offered at a fee of $9,900 (inc GST) having stood the 2019 season for $11,000 (inc GST). The son of Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) - who was meant to commence shuttling in 2018 but was forced to stay in Europe due to injury - covered 159 mares in last season.

Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor), Thronum (Snitzel) and veteran Bel Esprit (Royal Academy) will all stand for $7,700 (inc GST), while Ready For Victory (More Than Ready) and Squamosa (Not A Single Doubt), sire of Tuesday's Wangoom Handicap (Listed, 1200m) winner Order Of Command, complete the roster and will stand the upcoming breeding season for $4,400 (inc GST).
