Filly becomes Husson’s 16th stakes winner.
The Toby and Trent Edmonds-trained Vanna Girl (3 f ex Logan's Choice by Redoute's Choice) posted an impressive performance in the Doomben Guineas (Listed, 1615m) on Saturday and in the process became stakes winner number 16 for Aquis Farm-based sire Husson (Hussonet).
The three-year-old filly came into the race having landed a victory over 1400 metres at the Gold Coast on April 17 and she backed up that performance with a quarter length win over Supergiant (Red Giant). Ballistic Boy (Smart Missile) was another length adrift in third.
Toby Edmonds said the filly could now line up in The Roses (Gr 2, 1800m) next month.
"She can head to the (Group Two) The Roses on June 13 which should be perfect for her. We will have to find another lead-up which we can decide on shortly," Edmonds said.
"Then we might talk about the spring. Don't forget she has been doing this on a preparation where we have been forced to give her a week off and bring her back and give her another week off, etc."
Bought for $40,000 by her trainers from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, the three-year-old filly is out of three time-winning Redoute's Choice (Danehill) mare Logan's Choice making her a half-sister to prolific winner and stablemate Plucky Girl (Pluck).
Vanna Girl's third dam is Group 3 winner Zephyr Souba (Zephyr Bay) - the dam of multiple Group 1 winner and successful Naturalism (Palace Music), Listed scorer Impressionism (Vice Regal), while she also produced Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Crystal Palace (Palace Music) - the dam of Group 2 winner Palacio De Cristal (Encosta De Lago).
In 2018 Logan's Choice foaled a filly by Vinery Stud's young stallion Star Turn (Star Witness), while she produced a colt by the same sire in 2019.
Husson, who will stand the 2020 for a fee of $5,500 (inc GST) at Aquis Farm's Queensland base, has proved to work well when bred to daughters of Redoute's Choice, with the filly becoming the fourth stakes winner bred on this cross, joining Group 2 winner Frolic and Listed scorers Hussousa and Affable.
