Evergreen stallion Fastnet Rock grabs 157 stakes winner
Game Keeper (3 g ex My Tusker by Volksraad) capped off a memorable day for the McEvoy stable when the gelding landed the Adelaide Guineas (Listed, 1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday and in the process became Coolmore Stud stallion Fastnet Rock’s (Danehill) 157 stakes winner.
Unbeaten in his two other starts this preparation, the gelding brought up the hat-trick with an easy three length victory over Hypercane (Toronado) with Quantum Mechanic (Deep Field) another long-neck away in third.
"He's been a talented horse so he's been a source of frustration for us," Tony McEvoy said.
"We've had to geld him and he's now come back and is starting to really hit his straps.
"He was super impressive today."
McEvoy said he could back the three-year-old up against older horses next Saturday in the RA Lee Stakes (Gr 3, 1600m) before concentrating on spring targets.
The gelding was purchased by his trainer from the Coolmore Stud draft for $175,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling and is out of Group 2-winning New Zealand bred mare My Tusker (Volksraad), who also produced winning mare Special Favour (General Nediym) - the dam of 2019 Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Mr Quickie (Shamus Award).
My Tusker herself is a half-sister to Listed-placed Platinum Passion (Redoute’s Choice), who in turn produced Listed scorer Tribal Wisdom (Makfi).
In 2019 My Tusker’s Pierro (Lonhro) filly sold to Joseph and Jones Racing for $15,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, while her filly by No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) was purchased by YuLong Investments for $30,000 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale in March. My Tusker, who was sold for $15,000 from Coolmore Stud to Rosebank stud at the 2018 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, was covered by Yulong stallion Grunt (O’Reilly) last September.
