The Tony and Maddysen Sears-trained Maya Bay (2 c ex Commitment by Testa Rossa) proved too strong for his rivals when he landed the TC TAB Maiden 2YO Handicap (1000m) at Toowoomba on Sunday on debut and in the process provided Vinery Stud's first season sire Headwater (Exceed And Excel) with his fourth first crop winner.

The two-year-old colt finished strongly to beat Dragon Miss (Hidden Dragon) by three-quarters of a length.

Maya Bay was purchased by Moorillah Pastoral for $12,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, before realising $55,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO in Training Sale when purchased by Pinhook Bloodstock and Tony Sears Racing from the draft of Nolen Racing.

The colt becomes the second winner from three foals to race out of Commitment (Testa Rossa) and is from the family of stakes winning Danas Best (Danasinga) and Group 1 winner Miss Mossman (Mossman).

Further back this is family of Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Ivory's Irish (Best Western) and Listed scorer Fresno Canyon (Best Western).

Maya Bay joins Mileva, Aquagirl and Wisdom Of Water as Headwater's other winners and he will stand for a fee of $13,750 (inc GST) in 2020.
